Chapter 14: The Future

A year had passed since Maya became Luna.

The Silvermoon Pack had never been stronger. Under Kai and Maya's leadership, the pack had grown in numbers and in strength. The threat of the Shadow Pack was a distant memory, and peace had settled over the land like a warm blanket.

Maya stood on the balcony of the pack house, looking out at the forest below. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. It was beautiful, just like the first sunset she had watched with Kai.

"You're thinking again," a voice said from behind her.

She turned and saw Kai walking toward her, a smile on his face. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder.

"I'm always thinking," she said with a laugh.

"What are you thinking about?"

"About how much my life has changed," she admitted. "A year ago, I was a scared human running from her destiny. Now I'm a Luna. I'm your mate. I'm part of something bigger than myself."

Kai kissed her cheek. "You've always been part of something bigger. You just didn't know it yet."

Maya smiled. "I love you, Kai. I don't say it enough."

"You say it every day," he said. "But I never get tired of hearing it."

They stood in comfortable silence, watching the sunset together.

"I have something to tell you," Maya said suddenly.

Kai pulled back, concern flickering in his silver eyes. "What is it? Is something wrong?"

"No," she said quickly. "Nothing's wrong. Actually... it's the opposite."

She took his hand and placed it on her stomach. "I'm pregnant, Kai. We're going to have a pup."

Kai's eyes widened. For a moment, he was completely frozen. Then a slow smile spread across his face, a smile of pure, unguarded joy.

"Are you serious?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"I'm serious," she said, tears streaming down her face. "We're going to be parents."

Kai let out a whoop of joy and picked her up, spinning her around. "I'm going to be a father!" he shouted. "We're going to have a pup!"

Maya laughed, holding onto him tightly. "Put me down, you crazy wolf!"

He set her down gently and cupped her face in his hands. "I love you," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "I love you more than anything in this world. And I promise you, I will be the best father I can be. I will protect our pup with my life."

"I know you will," she said softly. "That's why I love you."

He kissed her deeply, and the sunset painted the sky in shades of gold and pink. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

But it was also just the beginning.
