KING CAULEY
Timid but fiery seductress
Everywhere I turned, I was angered by something that was not in place or by seeing the two fools who loved being siblings more than they loved being humans. They called each other Brother" and "Sister" and helped each other do everything.
I didn't blame them very much. Zane had never had any siblings beside me and I could not say I made the best brother in the world, but we had grown up adoring each other and having each other's backs. Calista, the timid step-sister who had come to set my life off course without even trying to, was something else. She loved being called sister, and she liked the treatment and pampering she got. I didn't even blame Zane for giving her the treatment. It was because he had been single for too long. Where else was he to channel all that energy, if not, into a step-sister?
A step-sister who was too timid to hold my gaze. One who had no confidence at all. She was pretty, too pretty for the personality she had. I had met her eyes more than once and, in those times, I had felt the part of me that is a bully come alive to bully her, but it had been in bed, with my legs trapping her down, my body pinning her against my bed, my mouth searing hers with a hot and burning kiss that I had imagined, and it made me mad because even when I was with Zora, she kept infiltrating my mind.
I had s*x with Zora twice in the garden in an attempt to overcome what I felt for Calista, but it had been in vain. There was a power she wielded that was going to get me into trouble. There was something about her that triggered the animal in me.
My father announced that we were to stay one more week, Zane and I, for the Thanksgiving celebration. It was already the end of the year.
Zora left because she needed to be with her parents for Thanksgiving. Willem left too, because he had other engagements. I was alone.
There was no one to spend time with except my new stepmother, who turned out to be great company, but I saw how happy Calista was with her stepbrother, Zane.
She had never spoken to me, yet I had made love to her in my mind. She did not know, but she had power over my desires, and that in itself was humbling.
"You know, there is a lot I could tell you about these things. Since this is your family too, I assume you will learn all of these in due time."
I heard Zane saying when I stepped out of my room for the first time that day.
They were always together. I had a feral urge to get there and pull them apart.
"You have done a great job enlightening me about these things. How else would I have known all that I do now?"
She asked. They looked at each other with an adoration that disgusted me. I stood at the head of the stairs watching them as they continued.
"I told you I never did have a sister, but I always wanted one. So when King and I were in high school, I started to keep a lot of female friends. But guess what..."
He asked. She was laughing, she seemed to know what he would say next, but he said it anyway.
"The ladies started to think I was dating them, you know, there was Kim and there was Lisa and there was Mag. Mag thought I was dating Lisa while she was just a friend, Lisa thought I was dating Kim while she and I were just friends.... everything started to get awry, and I was accused of dating all three girls at the same time."
He stopped and Calista looked at him wide-eyed.
"That must have been difficult for you, I mean, the rumors. And maybe it messed up your current relationship?"
Zane shook his head.
"I was about fifteen, and I was not dating anyone then. It was difficult but there was King, he was always defending me. He got into a fight a few times for my sake."
There was a new look on her face when he mentioned my name. There was something in her that my name stirred, and it made me all the more curious about her.
She was timid when my eyes were on her, but sitting there with Zane, she did not look like she was anything timid..she was peaceful, having a conversation with her brother and looking nothing like the girl I had first thought she was.
I did not know how long I stood there before Zane looked up and saw me.
"How long have you been there, pal?"
He asked and there was no smile in his eyes.
"Since Forever."
"What?"
"Just kidding. I just stepped out. Didn't hear all the crap you were saying."
He sighed.
"You were listening in on our conversation?"
He demanded. I started down the stairs to join them. Calista stood up when I started.
"I thought you were having some kind of brother and sister conversation and talks like that are not usually done in secret."
I didn't finish when she started up the stairs.
"Zane, I have to talk to Loretta, I ... need to talk to her about something."
She said. Zane looked surprised but he nodded. The staircase was broad enough, but our bodies brushed when she passed me without saying a word.
I looked up at her until she disappeared into the house.
"You make every young woman who comes close scared to death or too uncomfortable to be around you."
Zane accused the moment I joined him on the stairs.
"What do you mean? Is it my fault that she has to talk with someone?"
"It is your fault that you are not a nice enough fellow for her to sit with. Of course, she is leaving because you are here."
"Then I should probably leave."
"That's s**t. I won't sit here alone."
