Trapped

Ethan's avatar froze, his mind reeling from the sudden turn of events. Was he being relocated to a secure facility? What did that mean? The world around him began to distort and blur again. Ethan felt himself being pulled through the system, his avatar being transferred to a new location. He tried to resist, but it was no use. The system was too powerful. When the distortion cleared. Ethan found himself standing in a stark, white room. The walls were made of cold, grey concrete, and the air was thick with the scent of disinfectant. A single chair sat in the centre of the room, with a figure seated in it. The figure stood up. Ethan saw that it was a woman with short, dark hair and a crisp white lab coat. She looked efficient and detached, with a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "Welcome, Ethan," she said. "My name is Dr. Rachel Kim's associate, Dr. Samantha Lee. You're going to be staying with us for a while." Ethan's eyes narrowed. He didn't like the sound of this. "What do you want from me?" he demanded. Dr. Lee's expression remained calm. "We want to learn more about you, Ethan," she said. "And about your experiences in Elysium. You're a valuable asset to us, and we're going to study you and learn as much as we can." Ethan's mind was racing. He knew he had to think fast if he was going to escape. He looked around the room, taking in every detail. Ethan took a deep breath. He tried to calm himself down, thinking clearly. Maybe if he could just reason with Dr. Lee, she would see things from his perspective. "Dr. Lee, I understand that you want to study me," Ethan said. "But I'm not just a test subject. I'm a person with thoughts and feelings. Don't you think you should be treating me with more respect?" Dr. Lee's expression didn't change, but Ethan saw a flicker of interest in her eyes. "I'm afraid you're not in a position to make demands, Ethan," she said. "You're a valuable asset to us, and we're going to do whatever it takes to learn more about you." Ethan tried to appeal to her humanity. "But think about what you're doing," he said. "You're holding me captive against my will. Don't you think that's wrong?" Dr. Lee's expression remained calm. "We're not holding you captive, Ethan," she said. "We're protecting you. You're in a safe environment here, where we can study you and help you." Ethan's eyes narrowed. He didn't believe her. There was something more going on here, something she wasn't telling him. Suddenly, Dr. Lee's comms device beeped. She glanced at it, and her expression changed. "I'm afraid our conversation will have to wait, Ethan," she said. "I have a meeting to attend to. You'll be staying here for now." Dr. Lee turned to leave, but not before Ethan saw something that made his heart skip a beat. A name tag on her lab coat. "Dr. Samantha Lee - Head of Research". Ethan watched as Dr. Lee left the room. The door closed behind her, and Ethan heard the sound of locks clicking into place. He knew he had to move fast if he was going to escape. Ethan started to search the room. He looked for any weaknesses in the security, any way out. The walls were made of cold, greyy concrete, and the door was solid steel. But Ethan's eyes landed on a ventilation grille in the corner of the room. It was a long shot, but it was worth a try. Ethan walked over to the grille and examined it. It was held in place by screws, and Ethan knew he could remove them if he had the right tool. Just as he was about to start working on the screws, Ethan heard the sound of footsteps outside the room. Dr. Lee must have forgotten something. Ethan quickly moved away from the grille and stood still, trying to look nonchalant. The door opened, and a guard walked in, carrying a tray of food. "Lunchtime," he said, setting the tray down on a table. Ethan's eyes locked onto the guard's ID badge. It was a possible way out. If he could just get his hands on that badge... Ethan's mind racing. He knew he had to act fast. The guard was alone, and Ethan might not get another chance like this. The guard turned to leave, but Ethan was already moving. He lunged at the guard, grabbing him from behind and pinning him to the ground. The guard struggled, but Ethan held tight, using all his strength to keep him down. The guard's ID badge was just out of reach, but Ethan managed to grab it and rip it off. The guard grunted in pain, but Ethan didn't let up. He needed to incapacitate the guard, at least for a little while. He used the guard's own momentum against him, slamming him into the wall. The guard slumped to the ground unconscious. Ethan quickly got to his feet, his heart racing. He had done it. He had the ID badge. Now, all he had to do was get out of the facility. Ethan looked at the ID badge, studying it. He hoped it would give him access to the areas he needed. Ethan swiped the badge through the reader, and the door slid open. He slipped out into the corridor, his eyes scanning the area. It was empty, but he knew that wouldn't last. Ethan knew he had to move fast. He didn't know how long it would take for the guard to be discovered or for the alarm to be raised. He needed to find the security systems and disable them, or at least find a way to override the cameras and alarms. Ethan looked around the corridor. He spotted a sign that read "Security Systems" and followed it to a door marked "Authorized Personnel Only." He swiped the ID badge through the reader, and the door slid open. Inside, he found a room filled with monitors and control panels. Ethan's eyes scanned the room, taking in the layout. He spotted a central control panel, and his heart skipped a beat. If he could just access that... Ethan quickly got to work. He started typing furiously on the keyboard, trying to access the system. After a few tense moments, the screen flickered to life, and Ethan saw the facility's security layout. He quickly navigated to the camera and alarm systems and started to disable them, one by one. The facility's security was more complex than he had anticipated, but Ethan was determined to succeed. Just as he was finishing up, Ethan heard the sound of footsteps outside the room. He knew he had to move fast. He quickly exited the security room and made his way back into the corridor. The coast was clear for now. Ethan knew he had to keep moving if he was going to escape. He looked around, trying to get his bearings. Ethan took off in a sprint. He knew he had to move fast. The security systems were partially disabled, but he knew it wouldn't take long for the guards to realize what was happening. He followed the signs to the nearest exit, his heart racing with anticipation. He could see the exit door up ahead, and he knew he was almost there. As he approached the door, he swiped the ID badge through the reader, and the door slid open. Ethan burst through the doorway and found himself in a dimly lit stairwell. He took the stairs two at a time. His footsteps echoed off the walls. He could hear the sound of alarms blaring and the shouts of guards behind him. Ethan reached the bottom of the stairs and pushed through the door into the bright sunlight. He blinked, taking a moment to get his bearings. He was outside, and he was free. But he knew he wasn't safe yet. The facility was surrounded by a high wall, topped with barbed wire. Ethan spotted a guard tower in the distance, and he knew he had to move fast. Ethan took off in a sprint. He ran across the parking lot, his eyes fixed on the perimeter fence. He knew he had to get over the wall and get out of there before the guards caught up with him.
