Inside this entirely white room that felt so foreign and grim, the only thing I could hear was the monotonous beeping of the heart monitor. Beep... beep... beep... I slowly turned my head toward the machine's screen, ensuring that the wavy lines on it were still moving. Although I didn't fully understand the meaning behind those medical graphics, at least that constant pulse served as the only proof that my wife was still breathing
