CHAPTER 6

She looked very tired, so I decided to get her something to eat, but I found out she had bought food while heading home. I pushed the door open, and she hid the food. "What is that?" Jim asked me. "It’s nothing," I said. I looked pale; I had not eaten since morning and I had borrowed the money from Christie. Before I could cover the food, I fainted, and Jim caught me before I hit the ground. She fainted unexpectedly and I was scared. I carried her and called the doctor. It took a while, but he arrived in time. "How is she?" I asked. "Well, she is okay. She fainted due to stress, that's all. It's nothing serious." I nodded slowly as I escorted the doctor out. I sat close to her. "Get well quickly; I am worried about you," I said, touching her forehead. I got onto the bed and hugged her to keep her warm. Even though I am doing this for her own good, I think I am going too far anyway. I took a quick glance at her and fell asleep. I woke up to the sight of Jim close to me, his hand on my waist and mine placed on his chest. He really looked handsome—different, and so much more handsome than the Jim I knew. I looked at him until I realized he was fully awake. He pushed my hand away and got out of bed. "Take a rest from school today," he said, heading out. "The maid will cook for you. Make sure you eat and rest." "Jim... umm... please, can I talk to you?" "Go on. Be quick." "Jim, you've changed. It's like you aren't the Jim I—" "Well, I am not the old Jim, Anna. Stop expecting more from me." "But Jim?" "If you are done, Anna, I am busy." He didn't even look at me as he left. Jim’s POV I don't want to be soft on her. She has a rude attitude and doesn't want to change. Now that she is under my care, I will teach her a lesson she will never forget. Anna’s POV I don’t understand how things changed so suddenly. I didn't want this marriage, but I thought about getting a divorce from him. However, things have changed; he doesn't even look at me anymore. He doesn’t care about me. I thought marrying me would make him the one in charge of the marriage, but everything turned out unexpectedly. "Will I survive this?" I asked myself. My phone distracted me; I got up, took my bath, and left the room.
