CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3: Jim’s POV I heard my door open. "What do you want, Anna?" I asked without looking up, because she was the only person who didn't knock before entering my room. "It's me, Anna. What are you going to do about it?" I looked up at her, not bothering to argue. "So, you planned this against me, Jim?" she snapped. "You forced my parents to set me up with you!" "What do you mean?" I asked. "Stop pretending, Jim. I will make sure you never have peace in this marriage." Anna’s POV I left the room. I was so annoyed and I couldn't believe my parents wanted to get rid of me and give me to that poor man. I couldn't control it anymore. I will make sure he divorces me, and I will make it possible. The next day, my parents took me to the boutique. It was so beautiful, but the beauty turned into disgust knowing I am getting married to Jim. I was introduced to beautiful wedding dresses; I settled for lace and satin. I stood on the pedestal, half-wrapped in a gown that felt too heavy, too suffocating, yet somehow perfect on my frame. The seamstress fussed with the hem while my mom smirked with my dad from the couch. And then I saw him. The devil in my life, the bad luck in my life. He walked in late, of course—tall and composed, every step measured. My mom gave him a polite smile, and so did my dad. They whispered how important it was to "at least show some interest in Anna's bridal gown." I laughed out angrily. "Bride." The word left a bitter taste in my mouth. Jim's gaze landed on me, and I glared back at him with pure hatred. "Well, doesn't she look beautiful?" my mom asked Jim. He hesitated, his jaw tightening. "It's fine," he said flatly. I rolled my eyes and walked away, feeling annoyed for no reason. Or rather, I knew exactly why: I was annoyed that Jim didn't appreciate my beauty. I sighed and left to remove the dress. When I came back, I saw Jim in a suit. He looked handsome—I was shocked by just how handsome he looked. If only he wasn't so poor. I rolled my eyes again. We chose our wedding outfits, took a few quick pictures, and I left angrily, not waiting for him.
