Then I got up and we went inside. I poured myself a glass of Coke and drank this before my brain began to work again. I looked at the clock. It was just before two P.M., and I was starving.
So, I got busy and made a huge tray of food. I unthawed and heated all of my frozen spaghetti sauce and cooked up all the pasta I had. To this I added ham-and-cheese sandwiches, ice cream, and several different types of snack food, including potato chips and cheezies—and, of course, Coke.
It took two trips to carry everything. When I descended into his chamber, I saw that Grendel was asleep. Then I noticed something else: there was a large tunnel dug out of the far side of the chamber. Next to it my wheelbarrow was parked.
