Olivia I laughed as I rushed into the darkness under the trees. It was meant to be a light hearted sound but it came out almost mechanical. Higher than my usual laugh. And the wolf by the side of me turned its head sharply, orange eyes glowing. I had startled him, I realised with a wry grin. “Sorry.” I called after him as he launched himself into the gloom, his tail swishing the underbrush. It wasn’t hard for me to keep up with the wolves if I tried but somehow I had lost the pack , and that was fine. This wasn’t the kind of run where I needed to stay with them.
