April's pov I sat beside him, barely breathing, watching the steady rise and fall of his chest. The storm outside had settled into a quiet drizzle, but the storm within me still raged. My fingers hovered over his hand, hesitant at first, before I let them rest gently atop his. For a moment, I let myself feel it, the warmth of his skin against mine, the way his fingers instinctively curled around mine even in his sleep. It should have comforted me. But it didn’t.
