high pitched tone.
“Fun!? I don’t even know what that means, and I don’t wanna know what that means…!” I whisper to the other three kids.
We all start doing our homework even faster. After about ten minutes, my best friends turns to me and whispers.
“Dude, I am almost finished, how far are you?”
“Three fourths the way…” I whisper back.
“Well hurry up! I have to go and get home soon before I get in trouble.”
“Bro, wait for me! Don’t leave me!” I whisper.
“I won’t…” He whisper back.
“Hey, what about us!?” the big buff football player says.”
“You two better hurry up! Where are you guys at?” My best friend says to them.
“Only one third complete.” The big buff football player says.
“Well I am just… now… done! Novell hurry up! I am ready to get outta here, far far away from Tatford!” My best friend says.
“Dude!” I say.
“Now now, kiddies… no need to panic. Mr. Tatford will take great care of ya…!” creepy Tatford says having the creepiest look on his face.
“Super dude! That’s No chill!” I yell out loud.
“Oh we can chill Novell…!” naughty, disgusting, bad minded Tatford says winking at me!”
All three of the other students laugh at me then turn their faces up at eerie Tatford.
“Creepy Tatford wants Novell the most out of all four of us!” The big buff athlete whispers followed by laughter.
Then my best friend and the other funny kid join in with their laughter.
“Bros, I don’t want to get touched inappropriately! Someone need to report him and his naughty antics!” I whisper to them.
The other kids laugh at me. I rush and get almost get finished finally and whisper to my best friend.
“Done bro, done!”
“Alright, well I have to get home, we can leave but let’s try and wait for the other two kids. How far are you guys?”
“We are halfway done! Wait for us man…” the funny short kid says.
“Okay we will try.”
My best friend and I wait fifteen minutes then ask again.
“Where are you guys at now?” My best friend asks.
“We are three fourths done!” the big buff athlete says.
“Well me and Novell have to go! We can’t stay any longer, but you two just make sure y’all leave together on a buddy system! Me and Novell are out! Peace…!” My best friend whispers.
“But… wait…!” The big buff athlete whispers being interrupted by the sound of me and my best friend chairs moving. We get up at the same time with our papers and both walk up to creepy Tatford handing him our papers.
“Oh so you boys are done first…? Too bad, we were going to have some fun…” Mr. Tatford says.
“Have fun on your own time Tatford!” My best friend says in a threatening voice.
“Well this won’t be the last time I catch you two after class… One day, if will be just the three of us…” creepy Tatford says smiling.
“Oh yes this will be the last time.” I declare confidently to creepy Tatford glaring at him with the look of if the eyes could kill.
Me and my best friend exit the class hastily and walk downstairs away from creepy Tatford’s class and start talking to each other.
“Whew! That was close! We escaped creepy Tatford! So Novell, what have you been going through?” My best friend says.
“Bro, I’ve been getting attacked by an unseen, invisible force! I think it’s a demon!” I say, telling my best friend the truth. I knew I could trust him so I never had to lie to him.
“Whoa, that’s insane! So that is how you got beat up with all those bruises?!” My best friend says.
“Yea…”
“Hmmm, well how about you ask your parents if I can come and spend the weekend, and then we will see what we can do about your little situation in solving it…” He says reassuring me.
“You really do that?!” I say confusedly.
“Of course! We are best friends!”
“You are not scared!?”
“Nope. Not even the slightest. This is just the thing I was looking to experience. I have been going through crazy things with my Foster Mom yelling at me and hitting me and stuff. But you have been going through way more than me. So let’s see wassup!”
“Cool! So I will let my parents know.”
“Alright, then its settled! I have to hurry and get home now! So I will see you tomorrow!” he says sounding happy and excited.
“See ya tomorrow!” I say feeling more confident.
Me and my best friend walk out of school together and part ways walking home in opposite directions. He lived in an Eastern direction from the school, and I lived in a Western direction from our school. I walk towards my home by myself feeling relieved that I was able to escape Creepy Tatford’s class. I look up towards the beautiful sky feeling thankful that I didn’t experience Tatford’s wrath. He looked very puny, but no matter how hard to I tried to lie to myself and believe that I could beat up Mr. Tatford, something in the deep dark pit of my stomach kept telling me that if we fought that he would kick my butt with no real effort. My sixth sense was kicking in telling me that creepy Tatford was a great fighter and that I would have a hard time taking him by myself. But if I had my best friend’s help, we could definitely take him out if we had to. My feelings kept telling me that Mr. Tatford was an evil force to be reckon with! I stop thinking about Mr. Tatford and how horrible it would be being in different with scenarios with him. I walk home on guard looking around checking and keeping an eye out to see if Sho Ma would attack me randomly. But my walk home turns out to be a smooth one with no danger which baffled me, because since I knew evil never rested, I knew that this was just an intermission, because I was so on guard and prepared for the worse. It seems like every time I go through something, I go through it ten times worse than the average person. Stupid creepy Tatford, and stupid Sho Ma. These two were double the trouble in my world, which proves that my Horror Cotinues…
Chapter 5: Trying to Shake this Evil
I arrive at on my street that I live on about an hour later than I normally do. As soon as I get almost to my house, one of my neighbors across the street and friend of my family stops me. He runs up to me frantically looking really scared and worried. My neighbor is this kid that is about four years younger than me.
“Hey, I have something to tell you! He says.
“What is it man? I am not having a great day…”
“Well that sucksfor you because your day is about to get worse! Follow me…” The kids says.
“No man, I am not going anywhere with you! Just tell me already!”
“Well since you insist… My dog killed your cat.”
“What?! Your dog killed my favorite cat!?” I say angrily.
“Yup! You used to claim that your cat could beat up dogs but your cat didn’t stand a chance against my dog! Hehehehe…” the stupid kids says ticking me off.
“My cat did beat up dogs! Even other people on our block said that they saw my cat attacking dogs and getting the best of them!”
“Well my dogs won against your cat. Want me to show you now?” The kid says trying not to laugh.
I wanted to punch this kid so bad the minute he told me his dog killed my cat. This kid always did things just to annoy me on purpose. And the entire time he was time he was talking to me, he was speaking humorously as the death of my cat was funny. But I realize that his words are not enough proof, so I restrain from hurting this kid because I know I can although this kid tries to fight me every week. So I prepare myself for the worse and keep my cool.
“Yes, show me my cat…” Is all I say to this kid in the most threatening manner I could.
“Okay, follow me to my back yard.
I walk across the street following this kid back to his backyard. As soon as we make it there, I gaze upon a black polydactyl cat laying stiff on its back, I immediately knew that it was my cat. My cat was special with thumbs and extra claws than normal cats. He ran faster, jumped higher, and was more intelligent than any of the normal cats my mom previously owned. I stare at my cat with tears in my eyes but not letting one fall down my face. Then all of a sudden, the annoying kid speaks.
“See I told you that was your cat! I knew it was…! What, are you about to cry now?” The annoying kid teases.
I ball my fist up and turn to the kid shaking trying to restrain myself from attacking him. The annoying kid gets frightened and takes a couple of steps away from me trying to anticipate what I was going to do next. I could not let this kid see me cry, soI hold in my tears and gain composer, then I start yelling at the kid.
“No I’m not about to cry! But even if I was, that was my favorite cat! He was sick and trying to fight off his sickness! And it is not funny that your dog killed my cat!” I say, as I think about punching him.
“I didn’t laugh! I just told you…” The kid say with fear in his voice.
“Shut up! I heard you holding in a laugh when you told me! I should hurt you right now but you are just a stupid kid! You are barely in the 8th grade, but if you were an older kid, we would be having a different conversation.” I tell him interrupted him.
The kid takes a deep gulp but stands there in silence. After I finish speaking, I turn and walk away from him in an epic mannerism. I walk away from his house, back across the street to my house. I knew I was late, and seeing about my cat made me even later, but it was totally worth it.
I stride into my house smoothly trying not to let my mother see me, but as soon as I stepped in the door, my mother was there waiting for me, glaring at me with a belt in her hand.
Why are you getting home so late from school?! You know you are supposed to straight home from school. So, what do you have to say for yourself…?”
You would think my mother would ask me how I got beat up, battered, and bruised, but nope, she just continued on waiting to see what I was going to tell her.
“Well mother, 1st my Physics teacher kept me after class to do some work, and then I would have been here a lot sooner but the neighbor across the street had to show me something I think you should know, something that he thought was so funny that almost made me fight him.”
“Okay, I understand doing work after class for your teacher, that is acceptable, but what did the across the street neighbor want to show you and why should I know? I don’t like that stupid kid and I don’t think you should be even associating yourself with him! I don’t like his mother either.” My mom says yelling very loudly.
“Mom, our cat is dead! His dogs killed out cat!”
My mother calms down and gets really sad.
“What?! Are you serious? No, I just saw the cat yesterday. How do you know he wasn’t playing?”
“Well because I went over to his house with him and he took me to his backyard where our cat was lying dead on his back stiff. It took me a moment to take it all in, and I had to stop myself from beating up that annoying kid. It took everything I had inside me not to hit him.”
My mother gets teary eyed just like me when I heard the bad news, but then she starts talking to me in her normal tone.
“Well you got lucky today you had an excuse! I am about to finish watching this movie I got on in my room. You get started on your homework if you have any.”
“But mom, first I want go back over to that annoying kid’s house with a plastic bag and get our cat’s dead carcass out of his yard. Is that alright?” I ask.
“Better yet, that is a perfect idea, and don’t throw him in the trash! Get that shovel on the side of the house and give him a proper burial. And don’t forget to say a prayer over him!”
“Okay mom…”
This was my favorite cat so I did not mind burying him, but I had a lot of homework I had to complete. So this was going to take a lot of time and energy from me getting my homework done, probably making me stay up until midnight or later to get my homework completed. I could not believe my favorite cat was dead. I get ready to walk away from my mother with an attitude and she stops me.
“What is with the attitude young man?”
“I can’t believe my favorite cat is dead.” I say with a broken weak voice.
“Aw, its okay honey, I am sad that he is gone too. Good thing he had kittens. But they are wild and hard to catch. I have been trying to catch them and bring them in the house. He has four of them running around here. Two orange and white, one full grey, and one grey and white. Catch any of them if you can so that we have something to remember him by.”
“Okay mom, I will definitely catch one for you if not all of them!”
“Good, now go get our cat out the neighbors backyard please?”
“Alright.” I say.
I go put my backpack down in my room, then I grab a few black durable trash bags and head back across the street to the annoying kid’s house and walk to his backyard. I gaze upon my cat in the distance and immediately get teary eyed again. So I walk over very hastily and wrap my cat up in the bags and tie it up, not making a sound. I hurry out of the annoying kid’s backyard and make my way back across the street to my house. Then I walk towards my backyard, grabbing our shovel on side of the house along the way.
I arrive in the back yard and plant myself on a nice soft dirt area. I begin digging a hole. I stab the dirt with my shovel picking out the dirt. With each stab I get more emotional thinking about all of the great times my cat and I had. Halfway through digging my cat’s grave, I break down and fall to my knees on the side of the hole and burst into tears. Streaming tears started cleansing my cheeks as the in between floods sit heavy on my heart. All I keep thinking is how I just want my cat to be alive. Not a new cat but my special polydactyl cat. After I cry there immobile to the world around me lost and absorbed within myself with the deep pit of fear and sadness. Darkness consumes my heart plagued by all of the recent evil. Something erupts in me like the explosion of a spontaneous combustion.
I knew my favorite cat’s death and all of the recent events were all because of Sho Ma. I stop crying and start thinking about all the hurtful things I want to do to Sho Ma. Then suddenly I yell out in an agonizing voice.
“Curse you Sho Ma! I am going to kill you! I promise that on my name!” I yell followed by a scream.
I close my eyes and put my head down feeling dumb and stupid of the words I just yelled out to the world. I did not want anyone to get the impression that I was losing it… That I was breaking mentally and physically, losing myself as the person I was and the person I originally planned to be. Just when I get ready to open my eyes, I hear a deep voice that could only be one… Sho Ma.
“Novell, I feel your will breaking. Curse me?! No curse you, because I have bewitched you with the Curse of Sho Ma, my curse…Hahahahahaha….!” Sho Ma bellows followed by a deep booming soul cracking laugh.
I feel someone standing behind me, so I cut my eyes and sees a huge figure standing behind me. I know it is Sho Ma, so I jump to full height and strike a cool fighting pose. Similar to my old one but this one was better, more confident. I look around everywhere but don’t see anything threatening, nor Sho Ma in sight. How could I hear him I think to myself? I shake off my thinking and finish digging my favorite cat’s grave. As soon as I make the whole deep enough, I walk over grab my cat’s corpse and place it the hole then start covering, and burying the hole. I grab dirt mound after dirt mound and close up the grave.
I cover the hole completely and make a cross with two sticks and stab it in the dirt making a proper grave for my cat. I close my eyes once again and say a prayer for my cat just as my mother instructed me to do. After I finish saying my prayers, I open my eyes after I feel a drop on my head. Then a steady drizzle of rain begins to descend from the somber clouds in the sky. The rain changes from a drizzle to a hard thunderclap of water beating down to the ground as I walk back to the front of my house. I walk inside of my house drenched from the rain, not knowing if it starting raining from my tears or from the Earth itself crying, weeping, and mourning for me.
I walk into my mother’s room and start talking to her.
“Hey mom…!”
“Hey Novell…!”
“C’mon mom, I hate when you say that after I say that.”
“C’mon Novell, I hate when you say, Hey Mom! You know I always tell you, Hay is for horses.” My mom says then starts giggling like a school girl.
“Fine. Well mom, I came in here to ask you something.”
“What is it Novell..?” My mom says with an interrogating look on her face.
“It’s not what you think, mom. But I just wanted to ask you if my best friend could come spend the weekend with us this weekend coming up?” I say with one eye closed and one eye open leaning back as if the worse thing in the world was about to happen to me.”
“Sure thing Novell! Is this the friend you are always coming home talking about?”
“Yes…”
“Okay, well I am alright with it. I have been wanting to meet that boy since you talk about him so much. Tell him I said he is welcomed to come over.”
“Great! Thanks mom! I love you!” I say excitedly as I jump in the air, then run over and hug my mother.
My mother embraces me for a moment, kisses me on the forehead, and then we break apart.
“Okay Novell, well I am going to finish cleaning my room now, go and get you something to eat and then get started on your homework.
I nod to my mother and she nods back, then I exit her room and walk right over to my room, which as I mentioned earlier is the room next to hers divided by a hallway.
I go into my room and start on my homework. As you know, I complete Mr. Tatford’s homework first so I don’t have any weird interactions with him after school. I don’t want to live any more horrific events especially since I was already going through it with my family and this entity. I hated thinking or saying the entities name, Sho Ma. Just saying or thinking his name gave me the quivers, shakes, and chills. This was in fact no chill, because I never got the chance to chill… there was always something wrong going on in my life or something bad happening. Anyway, I complete the rest of my homework finishing about five minutes before 9:00pm. I yawn and stretch feeling like I needed some fresh air before I go to bed.
I walk outside the house and stand on the porch. I look around seeing that it is a really dark night out tonight. Something inside me tells me to go back in the house, but my curiosity told me to walk out to my gate at least and look up. I stand in place feeling the sensation of courage and fear at the same time, then I throw out the fear and walk hastily to my gate. When I get to the gate, I look up at the night sky. The sky looks as if a black hole is covering the entire planet sucking souls into oblivion. I shake off the magnetic pulling feeling of the dark void sky and look across the street.
Out of nowhere I see a dark shadowy figure unlike Sho Ma standing in the streets. The Shadowy figure smiles, and then teleports on top of a nearby house. Then it starts bouncing jumping from house to house. It bounces on my house and just about every house within a radius of about 40 feet. But what made this event even weirder is that a few more shadowy creatures join him, or it, or whatever the thing was! This freaked me out so much that I after watching this for about five minutes and three eye rubs, noticing that they were not going away, I decide to start slowly walking backwards a few steps, then turn into a sprint back to my house slamming and locking door behind me. I lean on the door my heart beats like a loud drum inside of my ears. I could hear nothing but the sound of my heart as I sink to the floor, all courage having being drained from me like a stopped up sink being unplunged. I sit with my back against the door for a moment getting lost in thought not realizing how long I was there. After what felt an hour, but was really only five minutes in real time, I gather myself together and walk into my room. I had enough excitement for one night. So I go into my room cut the light off, and as soon as I do, my deodorant fall off of my dresser. I am so overwhelmed that I ignore it, get into bed under my covers, andfall fast asleep.
I am awaken middle of the night by my deodorant falling off of the dresser!
“How did…!” I whisper.
It baffled me how my deodorant got back on top of my dresser without me putting it on there. I stare at the deodorant, then at my dresser and see an optical illusion of a clear figure standing next to my dresser. I was beyond too tired for all of this so I just close my eyes and go right back to sleep. If died in my sleep, I did not even care at that moment because I was just so tired of the evil bothering me. If it was my time to go then it was my time to go and it couldn’t be avoided…
The next morning I am woken up by my alarm to go to school. I slap my alarm shut just as most people in my day do and hop out of bed. I stare at my dresser and deodorant for two seconds then continue on my brand new day getting ready for school. I throw on a t-shirt and some cool jeans, bid my mom a farewell, then head out of the door.
I do my normal routine and call up my two friends I walk to school with, as I get close to the end of my street. I call the friend that tried to steal from that guy store first. The phone rings 4 times, then he answers.
“Yo, what’s up? Where you at? Are you almost at my street, I am waiting for you guys.”
“Naw man, me and the other dude decided we are not going to school today! We decided on it last night!” he says sleepily.
“Aw c’moc man, this means I gotta walk to school by myself now.” I whine.
“Well you better man up! We won’t be able to walk to school with you every day. I am tired so I am going back to sleep.” he says then hangs up the phone.
I tut and keep walking until I get to the corner of my block. As soon as I get to the corner of my street, a pigeon jumps off of the curb and gets ran over by a car! The bird makes a loud chirping sound that is quickly drowned out by the sound of traffic. The car passes leaving a b****y streak and bird remains along the path it traveled in the street.
Suddenly Sho Ma appears across the street from me. He stands there flexing his decayed corpse muscles with his fists ball not holding his shovel, glaring at me with his red piercing eyes and square metal shovel head. He smiles showing his sharp teeth, then I immediately take off running towards the direction of school.
Whenever anything bad happened when it was time for me to go to school, I never ran towards my house because I knew my mother would not feel sympathy for me because she was always so strict on me. So I would just run towards the school because I knew all too well that my mother was going to make me go unless I was dying. She even told me that one day and she was not playing when she said it. Ergo, running home was not the slightest thought, or plan that I had in mind.
I run full speed up a main street, as I’m running I see Sho Ma appear across the street from me every twenty feet or so. Staring at me.
“Is this dude dashing really fast, or teleporting ahead of me? This like a bad movie scene of the killer with hockey mask killing people.” I say as I run faster and faster.
Sho Ma does this for two streets. As I get to the third street, Sho Ma appears in front of me blocking my path. I immediately start slowing myself down but don’t have time to stop myself before I smack into Sho Ma. I hit him hard and fall to the ground. Sho Ma hovers over me and punches downward. I dodge his giant fist and roll out of his way. When I roll of the way I run into something hard. When I look up it is Sho Ma, so he grabs me by the neck and picks up in the air. I struggle to
