Waking up in a unfamiliar room, can be confusing. I look around, the room is a lot nicer than my home. Looks like the building is made of stone, a lot sturdier than mine. A big window showing the light of the moonlight and stars. With a bright Victorian style curtain. A soft white looking rug on the ground. A nightstand beside the bed. Both look like they have been carved with designs. I feel the sheets; warm, soft and comfortable. Surely no one would put me in a room like this if they were going to hurt me, so I was pretty confident I was safe.
A young looking woman wearing a long light brown maid uniform comes through the door. Shocked and slightly startled the woman says “Madam! .. .. Madam, the young miss is awake.”
I watch as an older woman comes in. Short white hair with a slightly silver tint. She was wearing this grey uniform, it kind of reminds me of what the nuns wear at the church. But it was different, she even had a silver and blue belt. She walks in front of the bed.
“Good Evening, young miss. You seem to have had a long and rough travel. But I commend you getting here. You are save here young one.” She says.
“Where am I? Did you happen to find another? Like my older brother?” I say with the tiniest hint of hope. The young woman and old nun take a glance at each other.
“We were expecting you my dear, this is The
Way of Vector a school. Also known as the White Misty Castle, where my coven also call home.”
“Expecting me? Huh, Vector…? We are in a castle? Huh, who’s a covve-em?”
She takes a long sigh then says “Here use this I’m sure there might be an explanation in here” she hands me the stone Liam gave me. Looking at the stone I notice it’s a bit more shiny than I remember. But it’s also a rock! Confusion hit me as I looked up at the nun, then look down at the stone.
“Hey, … It’s my rock.” I say in a matter of fact way. Do these people like worship rocks or something? That’s stupid but to each their own, I guess.
“This is a magical item, looks like there is some magic left inside. It might be someone’s memory. Hold it close to your heart, close your eyes and open up your mind. Picture the item in front of you. I will also add this is a castle full of magic wielders. We teach magic here, and you wouldn’t have been able to pass the barrier if you didn’t possess some magic. Now do as your told.”
I didn’t like the way she that but I was still a child and did as I was told. I wasn’t too sure if I should take the nun seriously or if she was crazy. But I still took the rock held it close to my heart, closed my eyes and waited.
The stone itself started to become warm. It had startled me so I opened my eyes to see it glowing a bright yellowish light.
Suddenly I was hearing and seeing a whole completely different scene in front of me.
My mother was talking with Liam at our dinner table. “She’s far too powerful for her age. And I don’t have enough power to keep sealing it anymore. I also have noticed the villagers acting strangely. Watch out I feel like they may be on to us.” Lily said.
“Why can’t people mind their own business. What have we ever done to anyone, NOTHING. Matter a fact our farm has saved them a few times in winter.” Liam replied angrily.
“I understand, but people get scared of things they don’t understand.”
Rolling his eyes he gives a sigh, “I’ll try to be carful. What about Izzy?”
“Isabella is stable right now and I locked her powers for now. Just incase anything happens to me, give this magic stone to her. I’m giving her my memories, and it is also the key to unlocking her power.”
“Why don’t you give it to her?”
“I didn’t want to give her the stone unless she absolutely needed it. If anything happens, I know you will protect her. Also if they come, The Holly Hunters won’t look twice your way, since you are human.”
“Yeah no need to rub it in, I know I wasn’t born with magic. I was surprised when you told me about yours and Izzy’s powers. Especially since dad had no clue.”
“Magic, no magic you are still my son. Also I needed you to understand me and your sister better. You never know, there is still a chance of awakening. Men are different than witches. It could take up to ten years after the age of 10.”
Lily breathes a deep breath while closing her eyes. She blinks and continues, “Your father, was a kind man. His faith in the church was high and I didn’t want to be the one to change his beautiful view on the world.”
“It’s okay, mom. I miss him too. I will do my best to protect this family. Maybe we should move?”
“It’s closest season to winter.” Says my Mother with panic in her voice.
“If you’re worried about these knights now, isn’t it better to leave now before winter comes.” Liam says in a matter of fact way. There was a long pause between them.
Breaking the silence my mother says with a smile “ Your right Liam, we will gather our things and head out in a few days.”
“Great, I’ll get everything sorted for us. Should we tell Izzy now? Do you have any idea where we will head to?”
“No not yet, we should tell her just before we leave. So she can be happy for a few more days. And I know she will be upset.” She takes a deep breath and pauses, the continues the conversation. “We will be heading in the to The White Misty Castle, in the Rocky Mountains.”
Giving a nod, as if he was showing he agreed with her. “Good, we will head there. Exactly how far is this Misty Castle?”
“It will only take 20 days get there, if I remember correctly. We will have to take the more rocky route to get there. In the cover of thick fog, there is dark magical defensive. You can get lost for years and time stays still. There are nightmare spells that attack your mental state. On the normal route to the main city in the Rocky lands. It’s safe, but it will lead away from the mountains. We will have to follow the darker path, leading up to the mountain towards the castle. Those who wish to enter the barrier must have three things to pass.
1) To have no desire to harm anyone there.
2) Magic and
Thirdly) Permission, from the Coven Elders.”
My brother looks defeated, not an expression I’m used to seeing from him. “I don’t have magic, … how are we going to get permission?”
“You leave that part to me, I will send word of our arrival.” She says, trying to reassure her son
…
Returning into the present my eyes were wide from shock and I had no idea what to say or do at the moment. But I found out the truth behind why everything happened, and who those hunters were.
“It looks like you saw something, young lady. There is quite amount of magic left in the stone. Keep it close and try accessing it when you can. No rush, just rest and come to me when you are ready” the older nun said.
“Yes I saw my mother, I still want to know more. Also my name is Isabella, but you can call me Bella if you like. Just not Izzy, only my brother calls me that nickname” I reply.
“Yes, I know who you are. And I know your mother Lily. When you are ready, you will tell me what my name is” the nun said with the warmest smile. “I’m glad your safe. It is quite late, so I bid you a goodnight” she said as she walked out of the room with the young maid girl. Of course I just sat there dumbfounded. She knows me? And my mother? A yawn escapes my mouth, and I put the stone on the nightstand. She must have successfully said word of our arrival.
My heart breaks as I think of my family. I can’t drown myself in sorrow, nor do I have and plan to forget what those knights have taken from me. Tomorrow is another day, I will learn more get my revenge someway.
