Detective Tom Zollars and Joel Fitz walked over to the County jail, and after locking their weapons in a lock box, were allowed entry into the confines of the jail.
“We’re here to see Ryan Bates, if you could bring him down to the interview room,” Tom Zollars said to the control room operator, who was stationed in a booth surrounded by bullet proof glass windows.
The Interview room they would use was wired with audio and video equipment and could be used as evidence in court if the defendant had approved the use of the equipment to record his interview.
Zollars and Fitz were sitting in the interview room when the two Corrections Officers brought Ryan Bates into the room and sat him down facing the one way glass window on the wall.
