MELODY...
Melody was in a zone where everything else was just droning around her. She could see her friend, Brianna, forming words with her mouth but she couldn't hear the words that she was saying. Melody was in a mood where she wanted to stab someone in the neck and watch them bleed until they died. This was what happened every time she was denied what she wanted. She used all the trickery she could master. She threatened, she begged and she asked but Kristofer didn't budge. What he didn't understand was that Melody was going to make his life a whole lot easier. She had the financial background to support him and the connections to get him into the large markets of the world. He needed to understand that sometimes love came a little later and opportunities like that came once in a lifetime.
Melody grew up in a family that had everything. While she went home in a nice car, everyone else rode the bus. She had an older sister that was being groomed to take over the family business in the near future which meant Melody could spend all the money she wanted without thinking about how to earn any. Melody could have gone to good schools but unfortunately, her low marks got her trapped in that college. Melody had planned that the moment she graduated she wanted to study art or something...anything that was outside the business area. It was not that she hated it, it was just that she grew up living and breathing business that it left her nauseated! She wanted something different for herself and she would have been able to achieve that if her father didn't threaten to cut her off if she diverted from the business course so she made an agreement with the old man; if she graduated with her business major then she was allowed to do whatever she wanted with her life after that.
Her father agreed because he thought Melody having the degree would force her to enter the family business and help her sister out. What they all didn't know was that Melody was already making plans of moving away from home and pursue her life-long dream.
Last night when Melody and Brianna were making their way to meet up with their friends at one of the restaurants in town, Melody saw Kristofer stopping in front of that Harper freshman and offering her a ride back to campus. It didn't take a genius to know that the two had developed feelings for each other. It was in the way they interacted with each other, in the way they reacted to the other's presence. Melody might have been flunking her courses but she was not stupid as not to see what was right in front of her eyes.
She knew she was not the only one who saw that. What irritated Melody was that she spent two years trying to get Kristofer interested in her and failed miserably whereas that b***h and a half took a few weeks and Kristofer was already hooked. What did she have that Melody didn't?
It was sickening that Harper had nothing to offer Kristofer other than herself on his bed! Just the thought of the two of them sharing a bed and Melody screamed as she pushed the stuff on her dressing table to the side and let them crash to the floor. She was raging mad.
Harper was not what Kristofer needed and Melody wasn't going to sit around and wait for their little fling to grow into something serious. Melody refused to lose to Harper because she was not the person to lose to anyone. It was either she took it or they both lost.
"Melody, are you okay?" Brianna gasped out loud as she stepped around the broken makeup kits and bottles of perfume on the floor to get to her friend. "Goodness, Melody, your hand is bleeding!"
Melody felt a sting on the side of her palm and when she looked down at it, she discovered that she had sliced it with something sharp, probably one of the broken glass bottles. She reached for the box of wet wipes on the shelf beside her dressing table and pressed it against her cut. She winced lightly because the alcohol in the wet wipes seeped into it.
Hurting herself was not going to solve anything. She needed to strategize and make sure that Kristofer didn't end up with Harper. For one, Melody felt as if Harper appeared from nowhere. She needed to find out about her background and any dirt that she could dig about her. Melody wanted to know about where she grew up, where her family was if she had any siblings, and how she ended up going to that particular college.
"Melody, when you get that look on your face, you scare the s**t out of me." Brianna eyed her friend with wariness. "What are you concocting in that beautiful head of yours?"
Melody turned to her friend and smiled tentatively. "Hey, Brianna, didn't you tell me that you have a guy in the private investigation?"
"Yeah, why would you need a private investigator?" Brianna asked.
"I need information on Harper Scott. I want to know everything about her life. I want to know what's her favorite color, her favorite food. I want to know everything about her."
"Melody, aren't you taking this a little overboard?"
Melody narrowed her eyes at her friend. "Do you think I will allow some unknown lowlife to come into my and Kris' lives and cause chaos? She is not even on social media! She has overstepped and she needs to be taught a lesson."
Brianna sighed knowing that there was nothing that she was going to say to Melody to make her change her mind. Melody was very stubborn when it came to Kristofer and though he had mentioned several times that he didn't feel the same way, Melody was going to fight for him until the very end.
"Why can't we teach her a lesson the old way instead of getting private investigators involved?" Brianna asked.
"Because that would be too easy! I want to ruin her. I want to make sure she can no longer walk out of her room without feeling like digging her own grave and burying herself in it." Melody snapped and held out her hand to Brianna. "Well, can I have his phone number?"
"But even if you do this, Kristofer will never be yours. He might hate you even more at the end." Brianna assured her friend.
Melody had made her decision and even if it meant that Kristofer was going to hate her for many years to come, at least he would know what kind of girl Harper was. Melody was sure that Harper didn't have a squeaky clean past. There was must have been somewhere where she slipped. Melody was going to dig all that dirt and put it out there for everyone to see. She was going to display all that dirt in front of Kristofer so that he knew exactly what he was dealing with.
"Then we will both lose. Give me the number, Brianna." She commanded between her teeth.
Brianna quickly took out her phone and gave her the number.
Melody was not ashamed to use her connections and wealth to get what she wanted. She was privileged, it was plain and simple and she didn't know why she couldn't exploit such opportunities. She knew what kind of life Kristofer led which made her very puzzled as to why he would refuse her help. He had no idea how many people would have jumped at the opportunity that she was presenting to him.
Melody's family had a firm that was mostly associated with new technology development. Kristofer would have fitted very well and he would have learned a lot from the high-tech specialists there.
Harper was benefitting from Kristofer. He gave her his laptop and now he was taking her around on his bike. She was a parasite that needed to be squashed and removed from his life.
Melody quickly called the number that Brianna gave her, a malicious smile appearing on her face. "Yes, I have a job for you..." she said.
Brianna just gave a sigh of defeat because she knew her friend would not stop until she had it her way.
