Embarkment part 2

The courtyard was busy,as it always is when they leave Medghar. It's the only time the gates are opened freely and the soldiers get to see the outside world,dark and grim in it's own kind of purity.

The wind was subtle but it made the grounds cold. The sun was had risen and was about to peak. It was busy,everyone was preparing for one last time.

Nikolai's Pov:

I miss him,everyday. I pray in vain,knowing the only way to bring him back might cost my life. I don't mind dying if it means seeing Denvor again. The horses walked past,the squires got our armour ready,our fire fluid was prepared by the healers.

"We will leave when the sun hits noon!,"I shouted.I brushed my hair with my special comb,a gift from Denvor when we first met.

I remember that day,the morning after I watched the orphanage burned. I watched Marty risk his life to save Daisie and walk out with terror in his eyes. That's when he transformed.We all gathered the next morning and became soldiers. We didn't have a home,so King Esther gave us one. Look how far we have come,the orphans of Medghar.

I still feel the emptiness,the survivors left and took their own paths and I'm still alone,but I have them,my only friends in this unjust world. The Brotherhood will pay for what they have taken from me,they will pay.

My hair looked perfect now. When I looked up, I saw Clover walking towards me, such an innocent and obedient girl.

"Well,hello,it's the girl in love,"I said.

"Nikolai,I wish to speak with you." Her purple hair blocked the sun,her silhouette reminded me of a lost friend. Her name was Krisaline,a sweet girl,she also left. It hurts to think that I have lost so many brothers and sisters.

"Speak away,little girl."

"I know you loved him....Denvor,I am truly sorry about Leo. He is very protective of me."

"Truth be told,he is not the first one. Along our journey we're going to pass your home,who knows what your father will do when he finds out."

"He won't,I'll make sure of it." I smiled,hoping that one day she won't regret it and end up with the same emptiness I possess.

Maxwell Foresste's Pov:

I'm anxious,as always when I have to announce the special branch. The people called us the Realm Warriors. I envy the people,they sit at the side and watch what happens,afterward, they name this bad or that good. By the luck of whatever God they believe in,we are the good ones.

I stood up on the mini stage and relayed the names of the special branch.These are the people who will ride beside me and is the most important.

"Today,we have quite a few in the special branch,listen carefully!

The following are in: Martin Foresste,Haleina Foresste,Nikolai, Oscar Foresste, Leo Sunsette, Clover Virqua and Amber Sunsette...,"a loud voice arrived from the back.

"Please wait,forgotten prince. I am also in your special tree branch."

"Who might you be?"

"I am Arthur Gren of The Fire Pit,your sister's betrothed." So young and so naive. I'm curious about my sister's husband.

"Well,so be it." I stepped down. My sister threw the gift that Arthur had given her into the mud.

"Hey now,sister, don't be rude to the fool prince."

"I do assure you,forgotten prince,I'm no fool, I'm not here to follow your lead,only to protect my queen." He held Haleina's hand and bent over for a kiss. She grabbed him and threw him to the floor. Arthur joined his gift

,into the mud. "I'm not your queen,"Haleina spat.

Oscar Foresste's Pov:

The sounds of steel and war infested my days and nights and once again I am called to war. I've spent so many years fighting and killing, this is just normal. At my age, I should be sleeping next to my wife and spending the rest of my days with my grandchildren but the King's orders denies me my freedom. I have no wife,no grandchildren anyways.

He was sobbing,such a sad sight.

"Wake up,boy,people are watching."

I picked him off the mud,he was much lighter than I thought. "Who are you?"

"I want to ask you the same question. I thought you were a valiant and brave prince but you made yourself into a coward,Arthur Gren. You allowed Haleina to beat on your ass."

"She is my wife, I will touch her when I wish."

" Is that the only thing on your mind? Touching girls?"

"Not touching any girls,touching her,"he pointed at Haleina," I want her to hold me and love me after I destroy her enemies."

"And have you destroyed any of her enemies?"

"No."

"Well,let me tell you boy, she is not my relative but I know she is not going to marry you. She is strong, probably stronger than you. Instead,of kissing her and trying to prove that you're someone special,talk to the girl,get to know her. Be a man."

"Who are you to tell me about being a man,you old fart?"

My hand slapped his face,maybe he'll listen now. I took out one of my Blackhills of lit it with my flame. Everyone was watching now,he turned back and was furious.

" Calm down boy, I may be no one to you,but I am more of a man than you'll ever be. Maybe you'll learn that being a man is not about how many woman you f**k or marry. One day you'll learn."

He slapped me,out of nowhere,my Blackhill was now on the floor. Even more people started watching. I laughed, I laughed so hard. It's been a while.

"Boy,Athie,whatever your name is,you hit like a woman."

Some people laughed,others went back to their jobs. He held his face where I hit him and smiled. I guess he learnt a lesson.

Leo Sunsette's Pov:

The sun was setting and everyone was ready to leave, I was about to mount my horse when Clover called me. She stood there in her purple cloak, I know what she wants.

"Leo, I spoke to Nikolai and he is sorry,maybe you should talk to him."

"Talk about what,he is playing with us as if we're dolls. I want to protect you and he is making it hard for me to do what is needed. I am so tired of seeing you being dragged around by your brother or your father even Nikolai."

"I joined the special branch willingly, I don't care what torture I'm put through,as long as I get to see you."

She held my face.

" I'm worried about your safety."

"You don't have to,just hold your tongue for just this moment, and maybe we can be together until our final days,"Clover pleaded. He lips came closer to mine. I pushed some of her hair back and kissed her. He lips were soft and sweet. I want to hold her forever,I must protect her. She stared into my eyes."Please,Leo,do this for me."

Some of the boys from the back cheered for me. "I thought we suppose to leave our wives at home,"one of them said. They all laughed and patted my back. I can't accept it but I must. I have to understand,if not for me but her. Her destiny is out of my hands. A poor lad like me can't change that.



We all mounted our horses and left Medghar for one last journey. Max was in the front as always. There was a feeling of hope and fear. We did not know what's going to happen next. We promised ourselves ,the Realm warriors,that we will fight until the very end. The horses tread fast.

The breeze glided through the forest as the snow fell and covered the towers. The guards sat quietly in the cold. His clothes were torn and the breeze steeped in. It was a bitter night at Crystal Valley.

The commander came in and ordered them to end their watch. He called another two guards and they sat in their places. The door shut,it was a loud bang and the snow fell after.

"Enough to kill a man,I tell you,"the commander said. The two guards agreed in their half dead replys. The commander left them to go rest. He walked cautiously to the throne room. The marble was always clean,you could fall if didn't pay attention. His footsteps echoed in the room.

She sat there,still and proper. Not a hair out of place nor was her dress undone. The slaves cleaned and cleaned. Their brown skin was crisp and torn,yet she sat their still and proper.

"Do you have any news for me,commander?,"Rey Demar asked.

"Yes,my queen. We ambushed a group of soldiers from Jade Valley. They came very close to the castle and breached the wall. They killed many soldiers and stole many slaves."

"So it seems Senah has become a great leader. Tell me one thing,is she loved by her subjects?"

"Not as much as you,m'lady."

"No need for the praise,commander. It all comes from my mother,Lilly,killed by Senah's mother of course. Soon,she will get what she deserves. On the day,we will take Crystal Valley as our own."

"When will that be,Lil-.....Rey?"

"Hush now,you don't people to find out my secret,"Rey said as she held her necklace,"It will be on the day that fog clears from the Crystal Valley and I think Senah knows that too and I can't wait to stab her through the chest.
