TWENTY-ONE “We’ll stay here tonight.” Grey opened the door marked B22. The motel room smelled of stale cigarettes, but it had beds and a shower. Things Sage desperately needed after the day she’d had. “Dibs on the shower.” The only thing missing was a good meal. That would have to come later. “Have a look at your wounds.” Grey closed the door and immediately turned to the window. He peered sideways through the edge of the blackout curtains. “We need to be ready for the next fight when it comes.” Sage made a beeline to the sink and mirror to inspect her wounds. The pain in her chest had dropped from a seven to a five during the ride to the motel. “Is this how it’s going to be from now on?” With any luck, she would heal before the next fight broke out.
