CHAPTER 6: The Ruler

Scarlet's POV

I'm looking at myself in front of my mirror. I'm so beautiful, aren't I? I'm smart, tall, sexy. What else can anyone ask from me? I'm almost perfect. Most of the people around me are saying that and, to be honest I can feel it too. Do I sound like a narcissist? I guess I'm just trying to boost my confidence, no matter how successful I am now. I will never be enough to my family.

*knock. knock

"It's open"--- I just continued fixing my hair.

A tall man looked at me in the mirror and put his hands on my shoulder. He smiled, and I smiled back, but that didn't last for long.

"Scarlet, I know that you know why you are working at that university, right? We are both clear about our plan".

I sigh and stand up. I looked at him seriously and said, "I know dad".

I just walked towards my bed and looked at the beautiful red dress I bought in the mall earlier. I'm so sure that Philip will drool when he sees me.

"Don't disappoint us again, Scarlet, my dad said, and left. After he closed the door, I just sat on my bed and cried. I know that they are still thinking that it was my fault. I lost her.

I lost my sister.

I lost the next ruler.

Kim POV

I was staring at the wall in Cowarts' room for about 5 minutes. It's November 4th, and we're celebrating our 18th birthdays later, but that's not the main event. At 3 a.m., exactly. We will be recognized as full-blooded vampires. We shall develop a desire for flesh and a hunger for blood. We're not going to eat any more human food. We won't be able to stay outside for long. Our strength and speed will be 5 times greater, and we will also know the power that we'll get. It might be the same as our father's, but it could be different too. I'm thrilled, but not excited.

"Are you okay?" -- I went back to myself when Xavier sat at my side. I sat up straight and took a deep breath.

"I guess?" - I said and stared nowhere.

"I guess? We'll be vampires for real. We'll have more strength and power. Don't you like it?"

"Maybe?"—I still continue staring nowhere.

" You'll get used to it."- He then taps my shoulder and leaves.

I guess I like it? I guess I want to make my mom proud. I don't have any memory of her. I don't even know what she looks like, but would our mothers be proud of who we are going to be?

The party will start in a few hours, and I invited Yuna Leviste. That woman, who has always wanted to beat me ever since. I always notice her in every quiz bee we had. She hate my guts ahaha. I find it cute.

Where are you? I'm at the library.

Shoot! I forgot that I told her to revise some stuff. ugh! I was so busy thinking about this transition. I went to the library and saw her there with her friend. I've seen her before.

"I promise I'll be fine Meigan. Go to Xavier." - Yuna said and looked at me. Xavier?? My cousin??

Meigan gave me a threatening look! "I see you," she said as she walked away. It's just be and yuna in the library. She has a key in her hand. That is probably for the library. We need to be quick. It's already 7:48 pm and i need to go home for transitioning to be a full blooded vampire tomorrow. We will celebrate it. I invited this woman.

"hey! we need to be quick since I have to celebrate my birthday first with my dads and cousins before tomorrow's celebration." She nod and sat on the table. I sit beside her.

"Why are you sitting so close?" she yelled.

"What do you want me to do?" The f**k she wants me to do? ugh! Does she even think I like her?

"Sit in front!!!" she rolled her eyes and opened her laptop and started typing.

"f**k!!! Seriously? No internet???" She sounds so annoyed.

"I believe there is a modem somewhere here," I stood up and attempted to locate the modem in order to restart the internet. I am not sure where it is, but this library is huge.

"Meigan said it's downstairs," Yuna said, looking so tired and annoyed.

I told you this library was massive! So it has a basement where they usually keep old books and other items. But for God's sake! Why was the modem installed there?

I went to the door and opened it. "Wait!! I'll come with you. It's so dark at this part and i'm kinda scared!!" she yelled. I rolled my eyes and asked her to use her phone as a flashlight.

We went downstairs and we heard the door shut. We didn't mind it and just continue walking to fix the internet. I have few hours left before the transitioning. I have to be quick! Finally found it and fixed it. I look at her, she looks so scared and sweating.

"Are you ok?" I asked.

"Duh!" she rolled her eyes and moved past me. She climbed the stairs and opened the door, but...

"I can't open it...."

"What?!" i hurriedly went up and tried to open it.

"Did you let us get stuck here!!!?" I yelled.

"I had no idea we would be stuck here!!" she yelled back. "Do you think I would want to stay here with you?"

Wow...

"Whatever! Just message your friend to open the door."

She rolled her eyes again. Ugh, she's cute but too annoying. I can't be stuck here!

"She doesn't answer!" She started to panic.

"Calm down. No one will eat you here. It's just me..."

"What? O.O?"

"Whaaat!!??" - i just realized what i said.

"I mean, it is just me and you; what the f*ck are you thinking!?"

phew!

It is getting hot here, so I took off my polo shirt. Why did I leave my phone in my bag? Damn! I hope she'll contact someone.

"Still no response..."

"She might be busy. Help me find a flashlight. I know there are some here." I was about to go down when she grabbed my arms.

"I know it is hard to admit, but I am kinda... scared," she said, looking down to hide her embarrassment.

Wait.. Is it really that hot here?

"Whatever!" I grabbed and held her hand. I felt like an ice bucket had been poured into my body. What's this feeling?

We tried to turn on the light, but it did not work. We found this door; I guess this was an old office of the previous librarian. I have seen this one before. Luckily, it's open. There is an office desk and a chair on the inside. I opened the drawer and found a flashlight.

"This works; just turn off your phone for the time being to save the battery; it is only 30%; why do not you charge your phone?"

"I had no idea we would get stuck!"

"Whatever! Let's just rest here."

It's just a small office, So we sat near the door with flashlight open.

5 minutes have passed... Nobody showed up...

to 10 minutes... to hours. We are both quiet. I kept thinking, what if no one finds us until tomorrow? Transitioning will happen at 3am. We will be hungry for flesh. human flesh.

I looked at her. She doesn't deserve to be eaten. I don't know what to do.

"Mmm do you feel happy when you won the quiz bees we had." She asked.

"Huh?! i mean of course. I beat you." i giggle.

"What!?"

"I mean, do you even see your face when you lose? That is funny!" Her eyes widened and she pushed me before lightly punching me.

"I hate you!! I hate you so much Kim. You are the reason I have never won anything! I hate you so much!!!!" She yelled loudly!! Why does she have to be so loud?

She keeps on nagging and nagging. I am starting to get irritated. She's telling me 1000 reasons why she hated me so much!

"Can you shut up!?" I got so irritated. It's hot here, and she's talking too much.

"Hey yuna! shut up!" she seemed like she didn't hear me. "If you don't stop, I'll kiss you!"

"And remember when---- what!?" she paused and looked at me like I was the most disgusting person ever. Hey! I'm KIM COWARTS!

"Yeah! so be quiet if you don't want me to kiss you...." "You're lucky if i do" i whispered.

"Ohh ahahaha really?! Kiss me then.. look c'mon kiss me!!" She pouted her lips in an attempt to irritate me even more. I feel like a magnet is drawing me to her lips.

"See?? see?? you can't------------------" I grabbed her head and kissed her lips.

It's a minute-long kiss. She was stunned and swallowed all of her saliva. "I told you," I said, letting her go.

Finally, at peace!!!

Hours passed, and she remained silent. Damn! Did I make a mistake? She provoked me after I warned her. It is not my fault! I looked up at the old wall clock. It is already 11 p.m., and I am sure no one will be able to get us out until tomorrow. My problem now is HOW... How would I do the transition? She needs to sleep first, and I am going to lock her in here until tomorrow.

We fell asleep after a few minutes. I woke to the sounds of heavy breathing in front of me... When I opened my eyes, I found Yuna on top, looking at me with her bright red eyes and drooling. "You are a good first meal, Kim.. The best first meal for the next Clan ruler!" she exclaimed, opening her mouth. Her razor-sharp fangs grew longer and she attacked me.

What the f**k is going on? A ruler? Yuna!!!?

I covered my face and screamed so loudly when...

"Kim...Kim!! wake up!!" I opened my eyes to see Yuna. The same innocent yuna beside her is Meigan and Xavier.

"They finally see my message so they went here and open the door. We can just continue the research next time. Xavier said you need to go somewhere." She explained. Was that just a dream? It feels so real! Yuna? The innocent yuna?

"What are you looking at? C'mon!" They walked past us. Xavier looked so confused.

"Are you okay, kim? We need to go home. They are all waiting for us. "

It's so weird. Everything's weird.

"What time is it?" I asked Xavier.

"It is 1:30 a.m., and we have been looking for you; fortunately, Meigan saw Yuna's text before the transitioning."

I fixed my things, and so is Yuna. "We would have to go first." We were about to leave the library. I returned my gaze to Yuna, who was waving at us, when her bright red eyes reappeared and faded back to black.

Maybe... Perhaps I am just tired.

This is so wrong. Yuna's a human.

She can not possibly be the next

Ruler.
