The wail of sirens shattered the silence of the underground corridors, followed by the pulse of emergency lights casting a blood-red hue onto the concrete walls. A total lockdown had been initiated, sealing off every exit and trapping every living soul inside this isolated research facility. The pungent reek of leaking chemicals mingled with the cold sweat of scientists running in panic, desperate for somewhere to hide. Amidst the chaos, Zeven stood tall with a cold, piercing gaze, feeling a surge of massive energy he had never experienced before coursing through his very veins.
"Open the door right now!" shouted one of the scientists in a white coat from behind the thick glass partition.
"The system isn't responding, the lockdown protocol has sealed off every sector," his colleague replied, his voice trembling as his fingers bashed the computer keyboard brutally.
Zeven stepped forward towards the reinforced steel door that served as the room's main barrier, his footsteps leaving wet tracks on the floor. The muscles in his arms tightened, radiating a heat that made the surrounding air ripple from the drastic change in temperature. With a single, effortless lunge, he gripped the edges of the multi-ton steel door. A horrific screech of tearing metal echoed through the room as Zeven exerted his superhuman strength to rip the door apart. The thick steel plates, designed to withstand a bomb blast, were torn in two with ease, shredded like a blank piece of paper in a child's hands.
"He's a monster, shoot him down!" screamed the guard commander who had just arrived at the end of the corridor.
"Don't let the subject get any closer, open fire now!" his deputy called out in absolute panic.
A hail of automatic gunfire immediately poured over Zeven's body, sparks flying as the bullets deflected off his hardened skin. Yet, the onslaught did not even slow his pace as he kept advancing through the rain of bullets with terrifying speed. Zeven swung his arm, slamming the front line of guards so hard they flew into the concrete wall, knocked unconscious with shattered bones. Screams of agony now blended with the roaring emergency sirens, creating a symphony of death inside the laboratory, which had turned into a slaughterhouse. The remaining researchers tried to crawl backward, scrambling away from Zeven as he moved like an angel of death beneath the slowly pulsing red light.
"Have mercy on us, we were only following orders from above," whined a senior researcher cornered by the edge of a laboratory desk.
"Every single one of you is responsible for what happened here," Zeven answered, his heavy voice rattling the room.
Zeven did not give him a second chance; his left hand shot out to grab the researcher by his collar before hurling him toward the main control panel, smashing it to pieces. Sparks from a short circuit erupted from the ruined electronics, adding to the thick black smoke that began to fill the ceiling of the underground corridor. Every room Zeven passed was left in total ruin, with steel doors twisted open and puddles of red fluid and machine oil scattered everywhere. An overwhelming terror had now paralyzed the entire facility, turning the scientists who once felt like masters into helpless prey. Zeven kept walking through the heaps of laboratory debris, letting his pure rage guide every swing of his hands, crushing anything that blocked his path.
"Has every sector been cleared of this threat?" asked a voice from a crackling wall intercom.
"Sector three is completely destroyed, the subject cannot be stopped with standard weapons," answered an operator's distant voice before cutting out abruptly.
Zeven smashed the intercom into tiny metal fragments, then turned back toward the main hallway leading to the deepest part of the facility. His heavy footsteps echoed along the cracked concrete floor, creating a constant thud that made it clear no one would survive today. The long corridor now seemed deserted, leaving only the steady rhythm of the siren as if counting down the remaining seconds of this place's existence. The grim atmosphere grew heavier as the red smoke from the emergency lights began to restrict visibility, forcing Zeven to rely on his sharp hearing to catch the slightest movement. At the end of the path, he saw a large junction that seemed to separate the medical research area from the highest administrative control center.
"Where are they hiding the blueprints for the entire project?" Zeven muttered to himself as he wiped a stain off the back of his hand.
Zeven chose the left path, where the walls were lined with a much thicker layer of steel and featured a tighter security system than the previous area. As he walked, he could feel the residual energy within his body still churning, ready to explode again the moment a new target triggered his hunting instincts. He checked room after room in quick succession, ensuring no vital documents or personnel were missed in the total purge he had begun minutes ago. The burnt smell of scorched wiring grew stronger, indicating that the life support systems in the laboratory were suffering a mass failure. However, that did not lessen Zeven's resolve to finish what he had started, repaying every bit of suffering he had endured inside the experimental vats.
"Stop him at the inner gate, set up the final barricade now!" a faint command echoed from a loudspeaker at the far end of the ceiling.
"We don't have enough time to form a new line, sir!" a soldier replied, filled with deep despair.
Zeven quickened his pace into a full sprint, charging through the barricade of iron desks and laboratory chairs that the guards had deliberately piled up to slow him down. With a single shoulder ram, the entire barricade shattered, throwing metal debris in all directions and knocking down the soldiers behind it. His superhuman strength was now operating completely unchecked, turning the laboratory workers' despair into a grim satisfaction for the vengeance that had long festered in his mind. After ensuring the main corridor was entirely clear of human activity, Zeven stopped right in front of a massive automatic door that looked different from the rest. This door had double hydraulic seals and high-level warning signs, indicating that the area beyond was of utmost importance to the facility's executives.
"This is the last place I need to destroy before I leave this cursed facility behind," Zeven whispered, staring straight ahead.
Zeven raised both hands once more, jamming his fingers into the gaps of the gate's hydraulic joints with absolute precision. The thick metal began to groan under the pressure of his strength, bending slowly before tearing away from its main hinges with a loud crash that shook the ground. Concrete dust fell from the ceiling as the giant door collapsed to the floor, opening the way into a vast room filled with advanced computer equipment. Zeven stepped into the new room, but his eyes locked onto the far end, which revealed a dead end with no further exit.
As the alarm roared louder, Zeven stared at the dead-end corridor and realized the executives were watching him from the obs
ervation deck above.
