It wasn’t just a marketing ploy.
She’d called her mother to discuss the matter. Her family didn’t visit often—they weren’t big on city life—but Wellesley had to be absolutely sure they wouldn’t hear about her one-woman show and come surprise her. She’d confirmed with the venue that they wouldn’t let in anyone under eighteen, so at least she didn’t have to worry about corrupting Toronto’s youth. She’d even convinced festival organizers to set her up with show times after ten at night—that is, if her run wasn’t shut down after the first performance.
