Chapter 4 - The Human

Matteo’s POV

‘Matteo, did you get an omega to get a villa ready for our guests from Blood Moon?’

‘Did it last week Papa, you know I don’t leave things to the last minute’

‘I know, good. Remember this is one of the Alpha’s sons and his friend’

I cut him off, ‘I know, I know. It is important to keep a good relationship. Why are you so worried? I know how to represent the pack. Been Alpha for three years you know’ I don’t know why he is needing to take over on this one, maybe he just really respects Alpha Michael.

‘I know Figlio (son) we have just never hosted someone from such a prestigious pack for an extended period of time like this’

‘And we have nothing to hide. They will see us for the strong welcoming pack we are. I already have a welcome feast served Al fresco and the villa is the best we have. I got a list from their Alpha of preferred toiletries and foods to stock and that is set up too. We are good Papa’

‘Sounds good Figlio (son)’

‘Do you know anything about the other guest?’

‘No, not really. I was told that they are both here on a foreign exchange program and need housing for a year. The friend is human and doesn’t know about our kind’

‘Well this should be interesting, a whole year of restrictive shifting isn’t going to go over well with the pack. Their wolves will get restless’

‘Like it or not it will have to happen’

‘I know, hmmm. I’m going to have Isabella and Carlo meet me so we can brainstorm some ways to make this work. Meet me in my office so you can help plan. I’d like your input’

‘I didn’t know Isabella was back. How did the meeting go?’

‘She just got back. Went the same as always, she had to put them in there place since they underestimated her’

‘I cannot believe they had the nerve. She isn’t the first female Beta’

‘I know, it’s like they want to be on Rising Moon’s bad side’

‘Nobody wants that but some forget who they are dealing with. Don’t worry though Isabella got the contracts signed and we can start our collaboration soon’

‘That is good news’

‘Indeed, it’s why I sent Isabella. She doesn’t mess around and I trust her 100%. I don’t think I could have made anyone else my Beta’

‘I know, the Alpha, Beta relationship is based on trust and who better to put your faith in that your little sister. It is nice seeing my children run the pack together. You two make me proud’

‘Grazie Papa, now get your butt to my office so we can strategize the issue with this human guest’

‘Okay Figlio (son), on my way’ I cut the mind-link to my Papa and open one with me Isabella and Carlo, my Gamma to meet me in my office. Five minutes later, there is a knock on my door and I say, “come in”

Isabella and Carlo say “Alpha” in unison in greetings

“Beta, Gamma” I nod back at them and have them shut the door and sit down. “We are just waiting on Papa to get here and we can start” just then Papa knocks and I say, “come in” again. We smile in greeting and he sits down.

“First, congratulations on a success meeting Isabella. I didn’t except any other outcome” I smile at my sister.

“Thank you fratello (brother). Always fun to put some male egos in check” she smirks

“I want you to meet with Angelo later to get the production set up and then you can take the rest of the day off. Carlo and I can handle the pack. But first, I need the four of us to strategize how we are going to host this human for a whole year” I direct the meeting to the matter at hand.

Everyone gets lost in their own thoughts for a few minutes then Carlo speaks up. “Maybe we can get their school schedule so the pack members have a schedule of when it is safe to openly shift”

“That is a good start. I’m not sure if they have their schedules yet but I can call their Alpha and find out. I do know they are getting here a month before their classes so they can explore Italy,” I reply.

Isabella speaks up, “we should have a meeting with the Alpha’s son when he gets here, I’m sure he can help too”

“Good point Izzy” I state.

“We can have the woods open to shifting anytime and restrict that area from the human. Maybe saying we have had animals attacks in that area as an explanation” my Papa adds.

“Yeah, I think the pack needs to know they have a place to go anytime they need or want to shift rather than feeling like they are catering to a human. Their wolves won’t react well to having to answer to a human’s needs for a whole year” I add. “Carlo can you mind-link a team of warriors to go through the north woods and ensure our boxes have the plenty of clothes for shifting. Have them rope off the area with no trespassing signs deep enough into the woods so it is not visible from the village or housing and pack house.”

“Will do Alpha,” I see his eyes cloud over as he is already setting this up. I love how efficient my team is.

“Thank you for your thoughts. You guys are dismissed. Izzy don’t forget to meet with Angelo so he can get everything started while you rest up” I nod as they get up to leave and pick up the phone to call Alpha Ronan.

He picks up after two rings, “Alpha Ronan speaking how can I help you”

“Alpha Ronan good afternoon. This is Alpha Matteo I’m hoping to get some information from you so that I can ensure a good visit with your brother and his friend” I state

“Sure I’ll help anyway I can to make their stay comfortable for them and your pack” he replies.

“As you know having a human living in a pack presents some challenges. We have been coming up with ways to avoid issues and having the human’s school schedule can help us let our pack members have more freedom for shifting. Do you have their schedule?” I explain.

“Sure I can get that sent over to you. Is there anything else I can help with?” He asks.

“If you can let Jorah know that we are going to want a meeting with him either via phone before he arrives or when he first arrives. I want to partner with him so he can help with his friend to ensure their safety as well as let him know the measures we are taking to allow our pack to still have areas to shift at will” I explain.

“Okay, I can let him know. He is actually at our beach house with our family and hers for one last vacation before they leave. He will be back the day after tomorrow and I will have him call” he replies.

“Okay I look forward to hearing from him. Wait did you say her family? His friend is female?” I question.

“Hahaha, he gets that reaction all the time. Yes, his best friend Amelia is female” he chuckles.

I cannot stop myself from whispering, “Amelia” it feels right coming off my tongue. I clear my throat and reply,” I get that about my sister being my Beta, so I understand”

“Impressive, not many female Betas especially with a pack of your size. I bet she puts many male egos in check” he openly laughed.

Now it is my turn to chuckle, “You have no idea” I almost snort.

“Well, I will send over this schedule and have Jorah call you the day after tomorrow”

“Okay, thank you for your time”

“No, thank you for hosting my brother and Amelia. They are really excited to get there”

With that we say goodbye and hang up. I lean back in my chair with my hands behind my head. Why am I so intrigued by this human named Amelia? I feel Apollo stir in my mind.

‘What do you think Apollo?’ Look at him in my mind.

‘Don’t know but I feel something too’

‘Why don’t we go for a run? We can check on the progress in the north wood while we are out’

He looks at me, ‘you know I will never turn down a good run’ he gets up and stretches his front paws in front of him.

Perfect a run to clear my mind. I have too much on my mind between these contracts, our production plan for all that agree to partner with us, and this Alpha and human, that need to just let go of some stress.

I walk out of the pack house greeting at packs members as they pass me. I head for the wood and once near the edge I get undressed and put my clothes in the available box and shift and run. I allow Apollo to take over and sit back in my mind trying to settle my nerves.
