Alex
I spend the rest of the weekend with Kayla and Kamryn. After discussing the items, we bought, I decided to take Friday off. That way, we don’t have to worry about noise.
After Friday’s phone call, I have not heard from my parents. I don’t know if they are going to show up at school or not. They told me they were coming here, but that’s all I know.
Before getting out of the car, Kamryn and I share a quick kiss. We don’t display our relationship on school grounds. As we walk in, I tell her to have a good day. She does the same. Then we go separate ways.
Lana comes in towards the last hour of school. “What are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you I don’t want to see you again?”
“You did. But Alex, please just listen to me. It was Fritz’s idea to lie to you. I wanted to tell you the truth. What I did to you was horrible, and I’m sorry. Fritz and your parents are on their way here now. Will you pretend we are in a relationship so he will leave me alone?”
I look at Lana like she’s crazy. “I’m with someone, Lana. Someone who I have no desire to leave. You’re on your own with Fritz.”
“Alex, please. I have nowhere to go. I need help. You are the only one I trust.”
“I don’t trust you, Lana. You lied about being pregnant with my child. Then you told my parents I knew the child wasn’t mine, and you had an affair with my brother. No, I don’t want anything to do with you.”
“You don’t mean that. Think of all the good times we had together. Remember how we would take weekend trips up the mountain and go camping? Or when we would take the train and go to France or Germany? Or how about at night,” Lana moves closer to me, her hands touch my chest and move down. “the things we did together. I would tie you up, or you would tie me. We would go for hours. Don’t you miss that.” Her hands dropdown. I hate how she’s affecting me. One thing I remember about my relationship with Lana is that s*x was always great. “I can feel how much you want me, schumsebacke. Can she make you feel like this?”
The mention of Kamryn snaps me out of whatever hold Lana has me under, “She can do more.” I push Lana’s hands away. “Go back to Fritz or run away from your problems. I don’t care. But don’t bother me again. I’m committed to one woman only, and she isn’t you.” Lana leaves my office in a huff. I take a deep breath to calm my nerves before I head to Kamryn’s class. She’s probably working late. Her work ethic is one of the many things I find attractive about her.
Once I get to her room, I notice the lights are off, and the door is locked. Maybe she went to get Kayla. I quickly head down to Kayla’s classroom. The lights are also off, and no one is there. I begin to panic. Pulling out my phone, I call Kamryn. The phone rings twice before going to voicemail.
I start to panic. Did Kamryn’s ex find her? Why isn’t she picking up my calls? I lock the building then head over to Kamryn’s apartment.
I get to Kamryn’s apartment. My heart is racing. When I get to her door, I knock. I can hear voices inside. Knocking again, my heart rate increases. Kamryn opens the door. It looks like she’s been crying. “Schatzi, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Kayla and I were just watching a sad movie. I’ll see you tomorrow, Herr Senn.” She’s about to shut the door, but I stop her.
“Are you upset about something?” I can tell she doesn’t want me around, but I don’t know why.
“Nope, there is nothing worth me being upset over.” Kamryn’s voice is cold. Her words confuse me, I can see she is upset, but she won’t tell me.
“Can I come in so we can talk?” Kamryn steps to the side and allows me to enter. “Why didn’t you wait for me? I told you I would take you to and from the school. Why did you leave without me?”
“You seemed busy with Lana. I didn’t want to interrupt, so I took the tram home. From now on, I will be taking the tram to and from work.”
“Schatzi, I didn’t do anything with Lana. She came into my office asking for help, but I told her no.” I look at Kamryn, what does she think happened?
“Did you tell her that before or after her hand was in your pants, schumsebacke. Or should I call you smooch cheeks sine I speak English?” Her tone sounds cold, but her eyes showed me how hurt she is.
“She didn’t have her hand in my pants, just outside them.” I don’t know what to say to make the situations better.
“Oh, well, that changes everything.” I relax hearing Kamryn say that. Maybe she isn’t that angry. “Now, I know I am not even worth a good hand job. Thank you. Please leave, I have things I need to do. And I would prefer to take German lessons at the university. I think it would be better for everyone.”
Is she breaking up with me? “Schatzi, please. I didn’t do anything with her. Lana came into my office and started touching me. It stunned me. I don’t want to lose you.” Kamryn just rolls her eyes. “You have to believe me; I wouldn’t cheat on you with Lana. She wanted me to pretend to be in a relationship with her to make my brother jealous.”
Kamryn looks at me with tears in her eyes. “I can’t be with a man who’s in love with some else, regardless of if it’s a real person or not. I don’t want to be a second choice anymore, Alex. I want to be someone’s first choice-“
“You are my first choice. Am I with Lana now, or did I come to find you? Who did I share a bed with this weekend, you or her? What else can I do to prove I love you?”
“Alex, the issue is not you loving me. It’s you not loving her. Johnny came home to me most nights. He told me I am ‘wife material.’ I am good at cooking and cleaning. That I run the house and make sure everything is taken care of, and everything runs smoothly. My life barely changed when I moved here. The difference is that I work a different job.”
“He wasn’t good to you, Kamryn. I know you’re angry because you think you saw something, but I pushed her away.”
“I must have missed that. What I saw was your ex running her hands down your chest, then her hand went to your pants, and she said, I can see I’m affecting you. Or something close to that, my German isn’t that great.” A couple of tears run down her cheek, I go to wipe them, but she quickly moves and knocks my hand out of the way. “That’s what you do when someone who isn’t your romantic partner tries to touch you.”
“Where do we go from here?” I’m almost scared to ask. I don’t want to lose Kamryn. Losing her and Kayla will be worse than losing my family.
“There’s no more we, Alex. There’s you, and there’s me. I have no issue being civil at the school, but outside of that, I want nothing to do with you.”
I turn and leave. There is nothing I can say to change Kamryn’s mind.
