Chapter Three

Alec’s POV Even after signing off on Cassia's dismissal, she was the last person I wanted to see. Facing her would shatter every ounce of resolve I had left. But here she was standing before me, her chest rising and falling so rapidly, her eyes red, and with each passing moment, it felt like the color on her skin was draining away. Letting her go already gutted me, but seeing her right now, shaking, pale with red eyes, it tore something deeper. Still, I had to be cruel. If I gave her even a shred of hope, none of us would walk away. “What are you doing here? You do realize that you can't just walk up here, right?” I snapped at her, a tight frown on my face, a few of my staff lingered around as they watched, but Cassia didn't seem concerned about all of this; her eyes fixed on Princess Kyra next to me. A trickle of tears immediately rolled down her cheek. I knew that I had spoken so coldly to her, but I had no idea it would have this much effect on her. The tears in her eyes made my heart flutter, yet I knew I had to do this in the most brutal way that I could, else I might have to go back to her, which was clearly not an option anymore. “I was handed a letter of dismissal by the advisor” “So?” I grunt, almost impatiently at her. She raised her brows, stunned at my words. She blinked at me, stunned “So?” She muttered, breathless. “I have worked my ass off for this council, I need at least an explanation as to why I am getting fired,” she demanded in such an authoritative voice that I could not help but scoffed in disgust, barely looking at her. “The nerve of you to ask that. I don't need to tender an explanation to you, you should leave, or the security will escort you out!” I warned keenly, hoping that they would sink deeply into her ears and she would finally walk away from here, but the tears in her eyes seemed to pour out this time around. I doubt they were directly from her heart, but she was too heartbroken to even wipe them off. Kyra raised her gaze to me tenderly as she spoke; we can't continue listening to her, the security should do their job, let's go!” I wrapped my arm further around her waist and started walking out of there. “Alec!” she called out in a loud tone, no one dared address me by my first name, especially around the office. I came to a halt, but I did not dare turn to look at her for fear that if I did, her tender face and her broken heart might cause me to have a change of heart. “Why? Don't you think that I deserve some answers? I deserve to know what I have done wrong to be treated so unfairly!” Her voice was at its peak, as if trying out a protest. I turned to the security guards who were standing right next to her. “If you let her come any closer to me, you are fired!” I warned, hoping that would get her to stop, but that seems to have triggered the demon in her. As they both grabbed her hands while trying to restrain her, she growled, shoving them away and running towards me, her eyes turned purple, I could feel the rage of betrayal in her wolf's eyes. “STOP!” I snarled, releasing my inner Alpha voice. I wasn't yet an Alpha, but the bloodline ran through me. That one command was enough. Her body stiffened as she froze in a particular spot, her limbs locking. “ON YOUR KNEES!” I growled again, since she was my mate, I could tell that it would hurt as hell. She dropped to her knees, clutching her chest hard. Her face had turned red, and the pain was clearly in her eyes. The pain flickered inside of me. Everything she was feeling, I felt it, and even though it was just for a split second, I could tell she was in agony. I hated this, but I had to make her understand that it was time to let go. “You should leave this place and don't ever step foot here, if it's possible, Cassia! Disappear!” Even though I knew she wouldn't understand what I meant, that was a warning to her. My mother was vicious, and even though I have been trying so much to protect Cassia from her, leaving the pack might be the only way she ever gets to survive her anger. I warned and started walking out of there with Kyra next to me, but as soon as we were out of the building and inside the car, Kyra turned to me. “Who was she?” “Wasn't that obvious, she is one of the employees who thinks that she is too good and can't be fired.” I explained, but Kyra didn't seem convinced; her eyes narrowed blankly at me. “No! Did you see her eyes when you used your inner voice on her….. she isn't just some worker Alec, it was as if your wolf was communicating directly to her” Kyra narrowed her gaze, a perplexed expression swept through her face, but I maintained a blank expression, my wolf was in pain, growling deep within me, making it difficult to breathe, but I couldn't let Kyra see the pain. Our pack was going through a tough time now, which most pack members weren't aware of, but we badly needed a way out of it, and in order for that to happen, we needed a powerful pack to back us up until we could stand on our feet again. Kyra's father was the best option, and the only way this pact could work was through marriage. My mother had thought all about the idea, making everyone believe that she was my fated mate; that way, everyone in the council would support my leadership. “It's nothing, just a pack bond, you also get that once we are mated in marriage!” I shrugged, knowing that the last thing I wanted for Kyra to find out was the fact that Cassia was my mate, else she might also go after her. We both settled into the back seat, my thoughts still clouded with Cassia, but I knew that I had to find a way to get her out of here as soon as possible, or else she would be dead.
