Chapter 9

JAVIER I was so glad we were back to the main camp. Marina was finally getting treatment for her sprained ankle and will be able to walk soon. While we were gone, Tommy had gotten a rash from poison ivy and was also getting treated. I was so happy that the other kids were alright. Nick and I finally get along in a civil way but I still don't like him  On my way to the cabin after checking on Marina in the dispensary, I saw a bunch of people hanging a banner above the doorway of Mess hall. "What's that about?" I asked. "Hey Javier, there's gonna be a dance later tonight. It was announced yesterday but you were not around, so get ready. It starts at 7pm" Julya replied and resumed her work. A dance! The idea sounds kinda lame but so is the idea of the entire camp.  Back at the cabin, I was about to take a bath when I heard a beep from my phone, alerting me of a new message. From my........dad. Dad: We are coming to get you. So get ready, you'll be coming home tomorrow.  That was strange coming from my father. He hardly called and never even texted. Throughout this period, I have received several voice mails and messages from friends, classmates, teammates, coach and even Lucy. But not a single one from Dad. Now he sends a cryptic message. I'm feeling a bit apprehensive but there's no way they could have figured it out. I never received calls and avoided updating my social media accounts.  I decided to ignore the message, there was nothing my old man could to me. If my friends couldn't find me, then the possibility possibility of him finding me is 0.0. I decided to pick out something to wear to tonight's dance. MARINA "Did you say anything to Javier about what I told you the other day about Scarlet and Kayla being mean to you because of him"Julya asked as soon as she entered the ward I was staying in.         "I'm doing just fine, thank you for asking" I replied.               "Whatever! But now answer the question" she persisted. "No I didn't tell him anything about that. Why would I?"    She didn't respond to that. "Okay, but did you tell anybody at all about what I told you?" "No I didn't. I'm not a gossip monger" I replied. I was getting annoyed. "Why are you asking so much questions?".           "Well your roommate, Javier just happened to warn Scarlet and the rest of her clique not to bother you anymore. He didn't exactly threaten them or raise his voice at them, but they said his stare alone was enough to make them cry" she explained.         Why would Javier do something like that? I reasoned and how did he even know about this? I haven't told a soul. Julya snapped her fingers in my face. "Hey are you still there?" I must have zoned out.   "Yeah, I'm listening.".         "What is wrong with him. One moment he's charming and smirking and all and the next, he speaks to girls and makes them cry. Is he bipolar?" She continued ranting about how I need to be careful around him. I think she's worried he may have violent tendencies and might hit me. But Javier isn't like that, is he? I know he does have a few tattoos and piercings but he doesn't smoke or do drugs. I'm not sure about alcohol but I know he won't harm me.       "When did this happen" I asked.        "Not so long, after he left you here." "Julya, I'll talk to him" I said in a bid to calm her down but she got worried. "Are you insane? What if he hurts you? Or worse, kill you and hide your body under your bed. It has happened.".        "Javier won't do that, why is it that we always meet in the dispensary to discuss Javier?".            "I don't know" she shrugged and we laughed. "Okay, the main reason I'm here is to tell you about the dance. Its tonight and I must style your hair" she stated with mirth on her eyes. There is no way I can deny her request. "Fine" I agreed and she clapped her hands in excitement. When the nurse said my ankle was fine and I could leave. I asked her if I could go to the dance, she agreed but said I should take it easy. Julya brought her things over to my room to help me get ready. She ransacked my entire luggage before finding a dress she deemed beautiful for me to wear. It was a knee-length, purple dress with a v-neck design. The upper part if the dress was firm fitting and complimented my chest quite well, the skirt of the dress was flair. In short, it was a lovely dress, I can't even remember when I got the dress or even packed it.
