Chapter 3: Transformation and Power Seizure

"Did you really think a little acid and a drop into the incinerator could get rid of me so easily, cousin?" The phone line went dead silent instantly on the other end, followed by the sound of heavy breathing and rustling fabric as Jeff struggled to wake up fully in his luxury bed. "Who the hell is this? What kind of sick prank is being played at this hour?" Jeff stammered into the receiver, his voice trembling with a sudden, unexplainable wave of cold dread. Williams let out a low, menacing chuckle that vibrated through the digital speaker before disconnecting the call without uttering another word. He slipped the phone back into his coat pocket, watching the distant lights of Aethelgard twinkle through the misty rain. Three long years had passed since that horrific night in the basement, years spent in the brutal, suffocating depths of the underworld where weakness was punished by immediate death. Williams had endured excruciating combat training, lethal underground tournaments, and grueling survival trials designed to break the strongest human wills. He was no longer the helpless, penniless outcast who begged for mercy while his fingernails were torn out by root and bone. Every scar on his chest was a permanent badge of honor, forged in blood and hardened by an unquenchable thirst for absolute revenge. The underworld faction that pulled him from the toxic waste had invested billions into his physical and mental augmentation, recognizing his terrifying potential to become a weapon of mass corporate destruction. They trained him in international finance, cyber warfare, psychological warfare, and high stakes corporate acquisitions. Williams stepped into a waiting black bulletproof limousine parked discreetly at the end of the dark alleyway. The driver nodded respectfully from the front seat, shifting the gear into drive as the vehicle glided silently into the heavy midnight traffic of Sector 1. "The board meeting is scheduled for nine o'clock this morning at the corporate headquarters of Aethelgard Holdings," the driver announced calmly, handing Williams a thick leather-bound dossier. "Your portfolio is fully verified and legally binding." Williams opened the dossier under the dim illumination of the interior reading light, flipping past pages of stock certificates and legal agreements. The family corporation that had once cast him out like stray garbage was now completely vulnerable from within. Through aggressive hostile takeovers executed via shell companies in the dark web, he had quietly accumulated forty-five percent of the primary voting shares over the past six months. The remaining shares were scattered among terrified minority stockholders who had no idea who their new mysterious benefactor was. "They still think I am rotting at the bottom of the municipal sewer system," Williams murmured, tracing a finger across his family's corporate logo embossed in gold on the paper. "Today, I will show them who truly owns this city." The limousine sped through the sprawling futuristic landscape of Aethelgard, passing massive holographic billboards advertising luxury goods and high-tech corporate empires. The towering glass skyscrapers pierced the heavy gray clouds like obsidian blades guarding a dark kingdom. Williams stared out the rain-streaked window, remembering every single mocking laugh that Stefanie had directed at him while the acid burned his flesh. Those memories were his fuel, keeping the fires of his hatred burning with a cold, blinding intensity. "We have arrived at the executive parking structure, sir," the driver stated, bringing the limousine to a smooth stop beside the private elevator entrance of the main headquarters building. Williams adjusted his dark silk tie, ensuring his appearance radiated the cold, untouchable aura of a seasoned billionaire tycoon. He stepped out of the vehicle with calm, deliberate strides, his polished leather shoes clicking sharply against the polished marble floor. The private elevator whisked him upward at breathtaking speed, bypassing dozens of floors filled with anxious corporate workers who remained completely oblivious to the impending storm. The digital display above the door climbed rapidly toward the top floor executive suite. When the metal doors slid open with a soft chime, Williams stepped into the grand boardroom where the senior executives and family elders were already gathered in tense discussion. Heads turned instantly toward the entrance, annoyed by the unexpected arrival of an uninvited guest. "Who authorized this man to enter the executive boardroom?" an elderly board member barked angrily, slamming his hand down on the mahogany table. "Security, throw this trespasser out immediately!" Williams did not flinch, nor did he break his measured stride as he walked straight toward the head of the long conference table where the empty chairman seat awaited him. His piercing grey eyes swept across the room, locking onto several familiar faces that paled visibly. "You don't recognize me, Uncle Marcus?" Williams asked smoothly, pulling out the center chair and seating himself with supreme arrogance. "It has only been three years since you voted to strip me of my inheritance and throw me out into the gutter." The entire room went dead silent as the name hung heavily in the air like a poisoned cloud. Marcus dropped his pen, his jaw slackening in sheer disbelief while color completely drained from his wrinkled face. "That's impossible... you died years ago!" Marcus gasped, standing up so fast his chair tipped backward onto the carpet with a loud crash. "The police confirmed your body was never recovered from the industrial district!" Williams crossed his legs casually, resting his elbows on the armrests while locking his gaze onto the terrified old man. The aura of absolute dominance radiating from him filled the massive room, making it difficult for the other executives to even breathe properly. "Death was merely a minor inconvenience that taught me how to reclaim what is rightfully mine," Williams replied coldly, sliding a thick legal document across the polished wood toward the center of the table. "Allow me to introduce myself properly to the board of directors." The executives leaned forward hesitantly, their eyes scanning the legal documents that bore the official seal of the city's highest financial regulatory commission. The numbers printed on the pages hit them like a physical blow to the chest. "Forty-five percent voting shares?" another board member stammered, his hands shaking violently as he dropped the papers back onto the table. "You... you hold the controlling stake in this entire corporation now!" Williams smiled faintly, a chilling expression that held no warmth or humanity whatsoever. He leaned forward slightly, resting his chin on his interlocked fingers while studying their panicked expressions with clinical detachment. "Effective immediately, I am exercising my primary voting rights to restructure the entire executive board," Williams announced in a voice that cut through the silence like a sharp surgical blade. "And the first order of business is stripping Jeff of all executive privileges." Panic erupted instantly around the long mahogany table as the board members began shouting over one another in frantic confusion and desperate protest. They realized that their cozy positions of power and luxury were about to be systematically dismantled by a ghost returned from hell. Williams raised his hand lazily, silencing the entire room with a single cold glare that commanded absolute obedience. The heavy atmosphere in the boardroom felt suffocating, pressing down on everyone present like an iron weight. "You can scream and protest all you want, but the law is entirely on my side," Williams stated firmly, standing up slowly to tower over the seated executives. "Aethelgard Holdings now answers only to me." He turned his back on the frantic boardroom, walking toward the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that overlooked the sprawling metropolis below. The sun broke through the heavy morning clouds for a brief moment, casting a golden light over the steel canyons of the city. Williams placed his hands inside his trouser pockets, feeling the metallic texture of the titanium wrist braces beneath his tailored sleeves. He had successfully seized the crown, but the true punishment for his enemies was only just beginning to unfold. A soft chime echoed from the smart desk console near the entrance of the executive suite, signaling an incoming secure transmission from his private investigative network. Williams walked over slowly and pressed the activation button to play the audio file. "Sir, we have intercepted emergency communications from Jeff and Stefanie," his operative reported through the speaker. "They are frantically booking private transport out of the city limits right now." Williams narrowed his eyes, a dangerous smile spreading across his lips as he formulated his next immediate countermeasure. They thought they could run away from their sins just as easily as they had tried to bury him in the dark. "Where do you think you are running to, cousins?"
