Chapter 2: Being casual

“Congratulations on getting married. And for securing your position as the CEO.”

The shareholders of Knight holdings toasted and felicitated with jake Moretti on his new achievements while they held a board meeting. Master Jay Moretti, jakes’s father was present as well.

The grand finale celebration was to be done afterwards, where friends, family, colleagues, men and women of the elite group would be present. A date would be fixed for it.

It was really a long day at office. Jake became so tired and needed a body massage, so Kelly drove him to the spa. On getting there, he met his long time ex girlfriend, Calissa Smith the daughter of the wealthiest man in Zuchin Top City. On getting down from her car, she immediately recognized jake because of Kelly. Kelly had been with him since childhood. They were both heading to the spa for quick body massage.

“Is that you Jake?” She blurted. It was so obvious that she hadn’t gotten over him.

Jake on the other hand couldn’t stop staring at her stunning, blonde hair, skimpy burgundy gown and glowing skin.

“She didn’t change at all, she’s still the same Calissa i knew.” He whispered so quietly that she couldn’t hear him.

“Yes Calissa, it’s me.” jake said, he couldn’t hide his excitement, he was all over her.

They came close and immediately Calissa hugged him and jake reciprocated. It was a friendly and long time hug, they were still talking until they both entered the spa. They discussed about everything; their past, present and future. Afterwards, they exchanged contacts and promised to hangout some other time.

On his way home, Jake remembered he didn’t ask Kelly about Jana, her personality, her background. Kelly told Jake everything he needed to know about his contract wife. Jake couldn’t believe his ears, he couldn’t believe he had accepted her without even knowing a thing about her. Anyways, he had known jana to be a very smart looking lady but that was about it.

Jana's phone buzzed……….

“Hey! Jana how’re you doing, it’s been a while so i decided to call. I missed you so much, the office is so boring without you, girl! I missed your goofy self.” Sel said with a low tone voice.

“Sel, I’m trying to be okay, i can’t just wait for this so called marriage to be over,” She snapped.

“Oh my baby! I can sense your emotions from your voice, but i told you not to, i encouraged you to work and save from your salary, but you were adamant, Jana. Now see what you got yourself into, a luxurious mansion where you can’t live on your own terms.” Sel said with rage burning in her chest.

“Hmmmmmmmm!” jana sighed

“Catch ya later, Babe. I have something to do in the office.” Selena said hurriedly and hung up. Jana was already getting bored and tired of having nothing to do all day. That phone call was the most interesting conversation she'd had all day.

Jake Moretti came home after a long day at office and spa. He strode to his room, on getting into the room, he overheard Jana's conversation on phone with someone. Because jana’s room was adjacent to his. So he dragged back a bit, so he could hear clearly but he didn’t hear anything. As he was about concentrating on the call, that was when Jana hung up.

“I Hope I’m safe?” Enzo asked while he muttered. After which, he entered the room.

Jana felt like her life was literally on hold, truly she was just a wife, a contract wife to be precise, she'd stopped working as a result of the marriage. She missed those days at Zuchin Top City, her office, her friends and colleagues. She was deeply pained. Even before she signed the contract, she made up her mind not to fall in love with the billionaire.

After a while she started seeing herself as someone that’s just meant for decoration, like a sign board. It then dawned on her that she made the worst decision of her life, she would have adhered to what her friend, Selena said earlier. But no…….Her inquisitive and strong-willed self couldn’t.

“Ooooo! I wish i could turn back the clock,” Jana yelled.

As the result of how she screamed, the maids, janitor, janitress, bodyguards and everyone in the mansion became startled including her new husband Jake.

Jake hurriedly entered her room……….

“Are you okay, Jana?” Jake asked.

He was deeply and honestly concerned about her for the first time since the marriage contract was signed. Prior to this, it had always been office-spa-CEO position-Moretti’s inheritance and it would always be.

“Yes i am, you asked as if you care,” Jana barked back.

“You’re only concerned about your life, your goal, nothing else. Anyways, congratulations on your new position,” She said

She had been contemplating whether to tell Jake or not, but something spiked in her to tell him. This time around, she wasn’t her self at all, her body language could literally tell the blind that something was wrong. She pushed further until the words finally came out.

“Since you’ve gotten the position of the CEO in your company, can you place me as your PA instead of Kelly?” She asked politely

Jake snapped back with a smug smile on his face, a forced smile literally. He vehemently refused.

“No way! Jana! You’re just a mere wife, a contract wife as at that not a corporate tool.”

Those words from him sliced deeper than any blade. She couldn’t hold her pain, rather, she allowed it flow naturally with tears rolling down her eyes. Her life flashed before her eyes.

“So you mean, I should sit without doing anything? you mean I should become useless even to myself, Jake?” She spoke back at him while her whole body shivered in anger.

“You became useless the very day you agreed to sign the contract of marriage. Moreover, it’s not a big deal, you’d get settled eventually so you can live your life freely,” He said.

In the midst of the mind blowing conversation between Jake and Jana, Jake’s phone buzzed, it was his mom, Chante moretti. He picked up and didn’t know it was on high volume.

“Hey! Son, are you aware Calissa Smith is in town? Do well to catch up with her later,”

“Yes mom! I knew. We’d plan towards that,” he said.

“Okay! That’s super good, who knows if you both are meant to be together.” Chante said confidently

“Hmmmmmmm! I really don’t want to hear that now mom, catch ya later.” He snapped

“Do you really want to hang up on me? What I’m just saying is…………..” Before she could finish up her statement, Jake had already hung up the call.

Jana couldn’t believe what she heard, she was so perplexed. Her life was going smoothly not until when she agreed to this mess. She was already getting scared about Jake throwing her out and getting married formally to his long time ex girlfriend, Calissa Smith. For the very first time she became so concerned about Jake.

“Do you really want to marry her?” She asked Jake

“Marry who?” Jake said.

“Come off it, don’t pretend you didn’t know I heard the conversation between you and your mom,” Jana said.

At that moment, Jake saw what he hadn’t seen in her eyes ever since she moved in. That facial expression of emotions and that made his stomach sink drastically. He went forward to where she was standing, and grabbed her face gently. Jana was already shivering.

“I’d chose her over and over again,” He strode out of her room and slammed the door behind him.
