AURORA My alarm went off, jerking me up from sleep. It was the day of my interview. I got up and looked through the window, the sky was thick with dark clouds. "Today better be great," I muttered as I made my way to the bathroom. The weight of the job's enticing price tag hung in the air, I turned on the faucet and gasped as the water ran through my body– I tried not to think about the downside of the job, twenty thousand was too much of a fortune only providence could rip me off. I took a quick shower and rummaged through my closet, searching for the perfect attire fit for the job. This interview was the solution to my troubles, and I couldn't afford to leave anything to chance. Finally, I settled on a navy blue shirt and a pair of tailored pants. I patted some light makeup on my face and packed my hair in a sleek ponytail. I grabbed my bag and made my way downstairs. The aroma of freshly made pancakes enveloped me as I stepped out of the room. I entered the kitchen, Emily raised her head to acknowledge my presence, she looked clueless when she saw how I was dressed, "Good morning Em, I hope you had a wonderful night?" I greeted. "Yeah I did," she responded, looking at me with curiosity evident in her face. I poured myself a glass of water and downed the content in one gulp, "Remember that job you told me about?" She squinted her eyes as she tossed the pancake to the other side, "Yes I remember… wait a minute, is today the interview?" I nodded trying to hide my anxiety, "Yes," "I'm rooting for you Aurora, I know you'd do well," I couldn't let her know what the job entailed, at least not now… I smiled at her words, "I'm starving… and the aroma from these makes it even worse," I remarked, pointing at the pancakes. "Of course, let me serve you some," she offered. She placed the plate of pancake in front of me, "Here you go," she said, her voice filled with warmth. I took a bite of the fluffy stack, "Thank you for this." I said in-between a mouthful of pancake. Emily's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "Are you ready for the interview?" she asked, her voice brimming with excitement. I nodded, "Yes, Em I am prepared…Even though I don't think I'm qualified enough for the job… I did a research on the company, it's a multi-million company and–" Emily shut me up with a wave of hands, "No negativity, you're going to go for that interview and you're going to get the job," she affirmed. "Thank you so much, I have to get going." I stood up and dashed out of the house, The bus station was a few blocks away from my house, so I decided to walk. Everything seemed to be in my favor except for the gloomy weather, I muttered some prayers for the clouds to dissipate. There were a few people waiting for the bus to arrive when I got there. I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw the bus approaching. I entered the bus and settled for a seat at the rear of the bus. I plugged in my earphones and turned the volume of backstreet boys' I want it that way, seeking solace in the melodies of the lyrics. The rhythm of the music intertwined with my thoughts, momentarily reducing the nervous energy that ravaged within me. I closed my eyes and the memory of the woman's call echoed in my mind– I didn't even know what she looked like. I opened my eyes and looked through the window in a bid to get the thoughts out of my mind. "You've got this Aurora," I said to myself, my voice barely above a whisper. No matter how hard I tried, different questions lingered in my mind as the bus journey continued. Why would a grown adult need someone to tame them? I was too stunned to speak I feared for my safety, but I quickly brushed it aside, "He won't kill nor r**e you, just teach him how to be humane" I replayed her words in my mind. Finally, the bus reached its destination, my fate was closer than I thought now. I longed for some insight into the interview process, a glimpse of what lay ahead. The memory of my previous job, despite its modest pay, still sustained me– I got a mouth watering offer, but at what cost? As the clouds loomed overhead, I silently pleaded for the rain to hold off, But, my luck ran out as the heavens gave way to the torrent of rain, I gasped in horror.I was running late and didn't think twice before running towards the company by the time I got to the office, I was well drenched. I approached the receptionist, a woman who looked like she was in her late twenties. She looked at me with a sly look etched on her face, "Good morning ma'am, I came for the interview," "Walk towards the elevator to the third floor, you're late already," she said, with a stoic expression on her face. I smiled at her and started making my way to the elevator. The noise from the waiting room gave it away, "I can't cope with you, you're worse than a slug," a masculine voice yelled, and a lady walked out of the room looking sad. I wanted to turn back but I was a few steps away from the door that held the waiting room sign. I opened the door and was suddenly under a pair of searching eyes that I could swear were more shades of gray than the mug on the table, "And you are?" He questioned, looking at me with disgust. His voice was deep baritone– harmonious baritone catching me off guard, "I-I-I…" I stuttered. "Has a cat suddenly caught your tongue?" He snapped. My eyes caught the name plate with L.B inscribed on it– I was standing in front of the man I was supposed to tame? His hair was black and styled in a perfect cut, his eyes were wide and the more I stared at them, they held– nothing. "I want to apply for the post of your secretary," I managed to say. He looked at me intently, piercing me with his eyes. I could see that he hated me, because of how hard his stares was. At this point, I was ready to get rejected. "You look miserable… too miserable to be my secretary, but it'll be an experience," he said. "You're hired," he added, I widened my eyes in surprise, "But don't think I'll let your clumsiness slide," I nodded profusely, "Thank you, thank you so much, I promise to–" He cut me off before I could finish my statement, "You start tonight," I nodded even though I wasn't expecting to resume that fast. Nothing prepared me for the next thing he said, "I have a job for you…in my house tonight," he said, with a stern look on his face.
