CHAPTER 37 I imagined my fate that evening. Clung to Peter. Or at least I wanted to be. Even in the car I couldn’t tear myself away from him. The road to Gloucester seemed endless to me. Hours and hours. It seemed much more than it should have been. I was terrified of ruining my makeup, hairstyle and dress. Peter was quiet and a bit absorbed beside me as the driver drove safely to our destination. I had always been a detached person, definitely not very emotional.
