Chapter 10

819 Words
The following morning, Jane arrived at Fletcher Group much earlier than usual. She barely waited for the elevator doors to open before stepping out and heading straight toward Kelvin's office. Ever since she had seen Asia's face on the news the previous night, she had been unable to stop thinking about it. The image kept replaying in her head—the reporters, the cameras, the applause, and most annoyingly of all, the confidence with which Asia had stood in front of everyone. Jane pushed open the office door without bothering to knock. "Kelvin." Kelvin looked up from the stack of documents spread across his desk. His expression remained calm as always. "Good morning to you too." Jane blinked before letting out an awkward laugh. "Right. Good morning." His attention immediately returned to the file in front of him. Normally, Jane would have complained about being ignored, but this morning she had something far more important to discuss. "Did you watch the news last night?" "No." The answer came without hesitation. Jane frowned. "You didn't see anything?" "No." She moved closer to his desk. "There's actually something important I need to tell you." Kelvin signed another document before finally looking up. "What is it?" Jane opened her mouth. "It's about…a..” The moment she paused, something seemed to click in Kelvin's mind,His expression hardened slightly. "If this is about Asia, save it." Jane froze. "What?" "I don't want to hear it." "Whatever dramatic thing she's doing lately, I'm not interested." He added. Jane stared at him and For a brief second, she almost laughed. If only he knew.If only he had seen what she saw last night. "But Kelvin…" "No buts."He stood from his chair and reached for his suit jacket. "We're leaving." Jane blinked. "Leaving?" "You spent half the week talking about that new restaurant you wanted to try."He glanced at his watch. "We're already late for breakfast." Just like that, the conversation ended. Jane followed him out of the office, still carrying the news she had rushed over to share. For the first time since seeing Asia on television, she found herself wondering whether Kelvin's indifference would remain the same once he finally learned the truth. Meanwhile across the city, Asia's morning had started much earlier. By seven o'clock, she was already seated at her desk with her laptop open and several files spread neatly around her. A cup of coffee sat beside her untouched as she reviewed the presentation she would be delivering at tomorrow's executive summit. Most of the work was already finished and she had reviewed every slide multiple times. Still, she found herself checking everything again. Perfection mattered Especially now. People would be watching her closely. Some would be waiting for her to succeed and Others would be waiting for her to fail. Asia intended to disappoint the second group. Her phone buzzed on the desk. A message from Rachel appeared on the screen. Tell me you're not working already. Asia smiled. “Tell your father not to schedule meetings that can determine my future.” She replied. The reply came almost immediately. A soft laugh escaped her lips, her phone buzzed again. “Also, you're going to do great tomorrow. Stop worrying.” Racheal assured her. Asia stared at the message for a moment. Then she texted back. Thank you. It was a simple response, but she meant it.Rachel had stood beside her when everything else had fallen apart. That kind of loyalty was rare and Asia never took it for granted. A knock sounded against her office door. "Come in." The young woman stepped inside carrying a thick folder. It was Clara the secretary Mr. Glanton had recently assigned to her. "Good morning, Ms. richmore." Asia nodded. "Morning." Melissa placed the folder on the desk. "Mr. Glanton asked me to bring you the finalized summit documents." "Thank you." "Everyone's excited about tomorrow." Asia raised an eyebrow. "Excited?" Clara laughed. "It's the biggest executive summit of the year. Every major family in Flinton City will be attending." Asia opened the folder just to flip through and as she turned another page, her fingers suddenly paused. A familiar name appeared near the bottom. Carter Corporation. For a brief moment, everything else faded into the background.Asia simply stared at the words. She quickly closed the file. Clara noticed a shift in her attitude. “Are you alright?” “Yeah…it just a lot of name” she awkwardly tried to laugh it off. After Melissa left, Asia moved toward the large office window and looked out over the city. She was trying to catch her breath when a slight sharp pain hit her at the very spot she was shot. It immediately faded away and she just brushed it off as unimportant and got back to work. Asia took a slow breath as she sat back on her seat. Tomorrow would be important and She could feel it.
