Just thirty minutes earlier—
“Can’t you take me yourself?”
Asia’s soft voice echoed faintly inside her head.
She remembered standing near the staircase while Kelvin adjusted his watch without even properly looking at her.
“I told you already,” he had said calmly. “Jane’s flight landed earlier than expected. I have to pick her up.”
Jane, it was always Jane Asia thought to herself. It’s been two years since she has been married to kelvin and in these years,Jane he’s best friend was always in the conversation.
Kelvin never hesitated to put Jane first but asia never reacted to any of it so she doesn’t seem insecure to kelvin.
Asia remembered forcing a smile despite the disappointment sitting heavily inside her chest.
“It’s just the pharmacy,” she had whispered. “I won’t take long.”
Kelvin finally looked at her then.
Not at her face but a stern stare at her stomach.
“You can ask the driver.”
Before Asia could respond, Kelvin had walked passed her.
Asia remembered the strange tightness that filled her chest at those words.
Kelvin grabbed his car keys from the table.
“I might be back later,” he said absentmindedly.
“Might…?”she asked.
Asia remembered staring at that single word longer than she should have.
Kelvin let out a deep breath before answering her as though the conversation was a burden.
“Yeah….”he finally responded.
Meanwhile Asia stood there alone, with her back leaning on the wall.
A sharp pain dragged Asia back into reality.she cried out weakly against the pavement.
Blood continued pouring from her wound. Her body was starting to feel numb now.
Asia weakly tried reaching for her phone inside her coat pocket, but her fingers barely worked anymore.
The screen slipped from her hand and landed in the rain.
Her breathing became uneven immediately, the cold air burned her lungs.
Thunder cracked loudly above and Somewhere in the distance, tires splashed across wet roads.
But nobody stopped.
Asia’s vision blurred again and She thought about Kelvin.
“Would he even answer if she called?”
Or would Jane still be sitting beside him in the passenger seat while he ignored another call from his wife?
A painful laugh almost escaped her throat.Even now, she still wanted him.
Still wanted him to choose her just once.
How pathetic.
Her eyes slowly closed for a second before she forced them open again.
She couldn’t pass out,Not yet.The baby needed her.
Another memory suddenly flashed across her mind without warning.
A different pair of eyes with a Warmer feel.
A familiar smile from years ago.
“Alex”she unconsciously let out.
Asia’s breath caught painfully. Why was she thinking about him now?
After all these years…
The memory disappeared as quickly as it came.
Rain continued pouring over her trembling body.
Then suddenly the pharmacy door burst open.
“Oh my God!”
The pharmacist rushed toward her in horror.
“Mrs. Fletcher!”
Asia could barely hear him properly anymore.Everything sounded so distant.
“Call an ambulance!” the man shouted desperately. “NOW!”
Footsteps echoed around her and then more voices.
Hands carefully touching her shoulders but Asia only weakly held onto her stomach.
“Please let the baby survive”.
Her lips trembled softly.
And just before darkness finally swallowed her whole,She heard it again.
That laugh that echoed from the alley.
