Darius The scent of her-like spring rain and wild honeysuckle-still clung to me, a phantom embrace that sent shivers through my lycan form. Quinn. Even her name, which I found out from the restaurant bookings, was beautiful, a soft melody on my tongue. I closed my eyes, picturing her again. Her hair, a cascade of spun gold that framed a face sculpted by angels. And those eyes, green as a summer forest after a storm, held a depth of pain that tore at my very soul. Petite, yes, but with curves that promised a paradise I wanted to explore, in all the right places. But it wasn't just her beauty that captivated me. It was the fragility, the profound sadness etched into her features, the fear that clouded her stunning green eyes when they met mine. It was a fear that made my instincts scream to protect her, to gather her close and shield her from whatever hurt had left such a mark. The urge to claim her, to mark her as mine, was strong in my veins. Every fiber of my being screamed to take her then and there, to bind her to me forever. My fangs ached, my skin tingled with the need to press against hers. But the look in her eyes, that raw, unadulterated fear, held me back. I couldn't shatter her with my intensity, not when she was already so clearly wounded. So, I let her run. I let her flee, her small form disappearing into the city, granting her the space she so desperately needed "Your mate was literally right there in front of you, why did you let her escape?" Adrian's voice, laced with confusion and a hint of anxiety, cut through my thoughts. He paced my living room, a restless energy radiating from him. "You could still find her if you go now rather than sitting here and staring into space." “How could she run like that? Didn't she feel the mate bond?. If that was my mate I’d mark her immediately she tries to run, so we would be bound together” he finished with an evil smile looking satisfied with his imaginations. Adrian must think I'm a fool. To let my mate run away from me? He just doesn't understand. She is definitely not human that I can tell, she smells like one of us but it’s so faint that just normal werewolves would miss it, but I’m not a normal werewolf, I’m a lycan so I picked it, coupled with the fact that she ran before I could do anything tells me that she’s not completely in the dark about our existence. Seeing as she doesn’t belong to a pack or anything, she probably doesn’t know about lycans but I could be mistaken. With the way she ran from my hands, I knew exactly where she was. I'd followed her home after letting her go, my lycan senses tracking her every move. She's packing her stuff, she wants to escape me. The thought was a raw, aching wound in my chest. My mate didn't want me. She was that desperate to leave. I wasn't at rest. Even though I'd waited until she slept before coming back home to collect my thoughts, I knew if I spent any more time there, I'd barge into the house and mark her as mine, stopping her from leaving me. So, I left. I just need to collect my thoughts because clearly me being there was blocking my ability to think, after a while, I found myself back outside her house, watching her toss and turn, trying to sleep. I couldn't let her out of my sight. I stayed till morning, a silent sentinel, then followed her to her grandma's retirement home, and all the way to the train station where she entered to leave me. It pained me so much that my mate was doing all this to leave me. But I followed her as she entered the train to Oak Haven, still staying hidden, not wanting to alarm her. She was greeted by her friend, a tall redhead, and a guy who was there welcoming her. He hugged her, and I fought every inch of me trying to rip him to shreds. Quinn is already scared of me, I can't give her more reasons to not accept me, I tried to calm myself, but it was barely working. I followed her to Ciara's home and stayed there watching. Night came, and I saw her come out to the backyard. She was talking to her grandma. She tried to smile while talking to her, but she looked tired and sad. I wanted so much to wipe those emotions off her beautiful face. After her call, she stayed outside a little longer, enjoying the view. My mate looks so good under the moonlight, with the moon shining on her illuminating her beautiful face and features. Her eyes met mine while she was looking around. But this time, she didn't run. She stayed put, looking. And after a while, she ran inside, scared. I can't leave Oak Haven, not with my mate here. I resolved it in my mind, thankful I had an apartment here and thankful for being a lycan that isn't bound to packs so I had all the time in the world to be with my mate here.
