14 DAYS BEFORE THE m******e. "Did you eat breakfast? What time did you wake up? How about a blood bag? Did you pack one? Your first class will start in ten minutes! Where are you?" Jimin was the type of boy who loved affection, especially if it came from those who were close to his heart, but as he listened to Elijah Kim, his adoptive father, on the other line, he realized he could only handle much. Elijah was blabbering words at 6:50 in the morning, causing Jimin to feel irritated. For God's sake, he was a man now. He could take care of himself. "I'm fine, dad. Just go have fun with Ellie and Uncle Sage," Jimin was almost out of his dorm when he realized that he forgot to pack a blood bag. Elijah was right after all. His son was forgetful. He tended to forget essential things. Jimin was the only vampire who forgot to bring a blood bag. Was it because he was a hybrid? As in the type of vampire who was half human and half vampire? Or was it because Elijah trained him to only drink animal blood? It was only when he reached eighteen did his father agree to let him have a taste of human blood on a daily basis. Jimin wasn't allowed to drink straight from the jugular vein though. He could only enjoy the red liquid from a blood bag. And control. Control was Elijah's favorite word. His son could only drink three blood bags a day. It was because he didn't want Jimin to turn into a rogue or the type of bloodsucker who couldn't control their lust for blood. It was dangerous. More creatures, especially humans and vampire hunters would try to eliminate him if he didn't lie-low from drinking fresh blood. Dangerous because hybrids like Jimin weren't immortal. They turned older, in fact the main reason why hybrids died was because of old age. It could also be by accidentally drinking the blood of vampire hunters. So no. Jimin couldn't turn into a rogue since he would be no match compared to the wrath of humans and hunters. He also couldn't hide the fact that he drank straight from the jugular vein for the reason that with just one bite, no matter how small it was, it would still turn humans into a vampire. "Jimin, don't try to be smart with me. I know you're blocking me from reading your mind," the father gritted his teeth together. Jimin groaned. "Dad! You are invading my privacy!" "It's because you're trying to hide something! What is it? What did you do?" Jimin groaned again. His father's power was such a burden. Vampires had special powers aside from being able to compel people through their voice, enhanced and heightened senses, and immortality. These special powers varied from vampires to vampires. Elijah's power was being able to read the mind of the vampires. Sage, his uncle, was blessed with the magic of being able to compel not just humans but also vampires. Jimin's special power was yet to be discovered. He just turned twenty. Besides, things about himself were starting to change drastically. Jimin's life was complicated. At the age of ten, he discovered that Elijah wasn't really his father. Sage wasn't his uncle too. He was just Elijah's dearest friend. What came as a shocker was when he found out that Ellie, the lover of Sage, was his biological sister. It was truly daunting, but Jimin learned to adopt. He didn't want to dwell with his biological family since the love of his father was enough. What was difficult for him to accept was his power as a good one. Good one as in a witch. Since he was a boy, he was called a warlock. Jimin came from a family of a witch. In fact, his sister was an enchantress. Jimin never showed any signs that he had the power of a warlock, mainly because the good ones who turned into a vampire lost their magic. It would be overpowered by their abilities as a vampire. Elijah thought that his son never activated his power as a warlock since Jimin was born as a hybrid. Hybrids were born when a pregnant human was bitten by a vampire. Jimin's mother was bitten by Elijah. She died upon giving birth to him. "I didn't do anything, Dad." Jimin lied. He used his newly discovered power as a warlock to block his father's mind reading technique. He learned it from the grimoire given to him by his sister. Jimin was a fast learner. It took him a few days to learn how to block the special powers of vampires. Elijah wasn't convinced that Jimin could learn on his own though. This was why he enrolled his son to a Lacuna School for the gifted. This university aimed to enhance, but control the capabilities of different creatures. Most students who attended this school were wolves and the good ones. Wolves needed to train strength and anger issues. The good ones, on the contrary, needed to learn magic tricks and in special cases, those who couldn't tame their magic. The school also catered to vampires, although only a few of them enrolled. The explanation was because almost everyone hated these bloodsuckers. They were hard to tame and were insatiable. They would dig their fangs on anyone. This being the case, the school was very brutal on vampires. Their training was different. They would be starved and tortured just to make them stop from drinking human blood and killing people. There was even a time wherein the good ones trapped the rogue vampires into what they called a phantasm spell. This meant that vampires would be like ghosts. They couldn't be seen by any other creatures. They couldn't touch or harm anyone too. The sad thing about this was they would perish soon since they couldn't drink blood. All of these horror stories scared Elijah so much that he forced Ellie to perform a spell that would conceal Jimin's identity as a vampire. In short, anyone in school would not suspect him as a vampire as long as Jimin didn't show them his fangs and red eyes. Wolves could smell vampires. The good ones also had a way to know who's a vampire and who's not, but with the spell performed by Ellie, no one would know as long as Jimin didn't blatantly make his existence known. This was for his own safety. He enrolled at Lacuna School for the Gifted to be trained on how to be a better warlock and not to be a tamed vampire. Today was Jimin's first day of school. He lived in the university's dorm which had Elijah worrying. The father wasn't used to being away from his son. The separation anxiety felt was so strong to the point that he called Jimin almost every hour. "Don't lie to me, Jimin," Elijah warned. Jimin sighed, there was no point in arguing with his father. "Fine. I forgot to pack my blood bag, but I'll be fine. I promise." The hybrid finally coaxed his father to believe him. Jimin went straight to class right after the call ended. He was patiently waiting for his professor at the door of the classroom. He was advised to wait since he would be introduced to his classmates first. "Everyone, please welcome our transferee, Mr. Jimin Kyteler!" Mr. Han, the warlock professor introduced. To be safe, Jimin used his biological family's last name. The Kytelers were pretty prominent in Lacuna Valley, their province. However, some humans still associated the good ones as being creepy. As a matter of fact, Ellie was bullied because she was a witch. This was already decades ago though. "Tell us about yourself, Jimin." Mr. Han urged the transferee to speak. Jimin smiled sheepishly. He was never a shy boy. He loved meeting new people, but his father told him to lie low. He didn't need the spotlight as it would only add to the risk of being exposed as a vampire. "I'm Jimin and I'm a warlock. It's nice to meet you all." The hybrid bowed down a little. Some of the girls giggled. They couldn't help it. Jimin was adorable. He had this angel eyes and sweet, sweet smile. He looked like a good boy, almost delicate. Girls usually liked bad boys, but there was something about Jimin that was so mesmerising. "You can choose your own seat," the professor smiled warmly. Jimin scanned the whole place. It had only been two months since he discovered his power as a warlock, yet he already knew too much. Jimin could feel the emotions of other people if he focused hard enough. Judging the current situation, he could feel that most male wolves were threatened by him since he was getting the attention of the girls. The female wolves were giddy. It was as if they were waiting for him to come sit beside them. Jimin didn't want to cause more tension, so he decided to sit right next to the girl who seemed disinterested the most. Unfortunately, Jimin made the wrong choice. All eyes were on him the second he sat beside the girl at the back. He even heard murmurs. "Why is he sitting with Luna? Calix will be so pissed!" "Relax. Luna doesn't care about him. He's a warlock. I know she only got eyes for the new prince." "Right! They're going to be married this month!" Jimin could perfectly hear what his classmates were talking about. He couldn't help but glance at the girl beside him because of this. Why was she popular? What was so special about her? As Jimin turned to look at his seatmate, his palms started sweating. There was something about this girl that made his heart beat fast. He knew it was stupid to fall in love with someone he just met—it was impossible. Jimin just knew that his heart was beating erratically because the girl was attractive. Any normal creature could see that. She looked innocent. But two weeks later, Jimin's view about her change. "L-Luna?" Jimin called, unsure. It's past eleven pm when the hybrid decided to leave the ballroom. uAll wolves and good ones were invited tonight to celebrate Luna's 20th birthday. It was a big celebration. Everyone was having a good time. They were drinking booze and dancing like nobody was watching. Jimin wanted to party with them, but a female wolf accidentally hurt herself while opening the bottle of wine. Blood dripped down all over hands and Jimin had to leave. It was difficult for him to control his bloodlust these days. If he didn't leave, everyone would be able to see his red eyes and fangs that were threatening to show. As it turned out, it wasn't enough that he left the party. Someone still discovered his secret. A wolf still saw his red eyes and sharp fangs. It was Luna. "Jimin!" Luna was hysterical when she spotted the warlock standing behind the tree here at Lacuna Valley. Her lips were trembling as she realized that there was no point in hiding. Jimin wasn't the only one with a secret. Luna had one too. Jimin's jaw dropped on the floor. It was dark, but he could clearly see dead bodies on the ground. This should come as a shocker to him, but what he noticed was not the dead wolves. "Luna..." Jimin called. He couldn't help but use his super speed to go near her. He was standing a few inches away from her, totally invading her personal space. "Your eyes," Jimin swallowed hard. "They're emerald." Again, there was no point in hiding. Jimin already knew what the color of her eyes symbolized. And so Luna was left with no choice. "Help me." She cried, eyes begging. Luna was considered a special wolf. Everyone bowed down to her. But not anymore. This time, she was the one bowing down. In fact, she got on her knees as she looked at Jimin as if he was her God. And then she whispered "Please..."
