A Knight In Shining Armor

Kimberly’s POV For a minute, he looked around, stunned, like he'd been physically shocked by electricity, or seen a ghost. “Don't come any closer," he said coldly. I froze on the spot. I didn't know the strange Lycan before me and his actions were frightening. Actually, I had never had a close encounter with any Lycan before. They were the sworn enemies of the Mergers and anything that brought them close meant one of us was going to die–which was why I was almost so sure I wasn't leaving here in a single piece. "Duncan!” He called out and the man who had brought me from the cell sprung towards his direction. "My King,” he replied, eyes cast down, head bowed in respect. The man gestured at me, "Take her away. Not a hair on her head should be touched. Drop her off at the human settlement.” I trembled, facing the man, who I knew nothing about – except that he was boss around here. “Please…don’t send me back. He’ll find me. Ogar won’t stop until—” He cut me off, his voice harsh. “That’s not my concern. You belong with your own kind.” “My kind?” my voice shook. “You don't know what...” as I was about to respond, it dawned on me… ‘He had no idea.’ I swallowed my words and then followed Duncan. He shook his head, "Ogar and I may have scores to settle. But this isn't my fight.” he said under his breath. “Your scent... I can’t even—” He stopped, breathing heavily, struggling to control himself. He was visibly in a battle, but I wasn't sure what it was about. “I’m sending you home. Tonight.” I felt my heart drop to my stomach when he said that. I looked away, tears streaming down my cheeks. I already knew how this was going to end. The moment I returned home, my parents were obligated to give me to Ogar. I had no idea where I was, but I knew anything was better than being with Ogar. “King Cedric,” Duncan murmured, his tone respectful yet firm. “A word?” “Cedric,” I called his name under my breath, as the Lycan King gave me a scrutinizing look one last time before nodding, stepping aside with Duncan. They kept whispering to each other by the corner and I couldn't pick a word of anything they said, not until… “I said, no!" King Cedric yelled and then walked towards me, leaving Duncan by the side. Cedric made a gesture and three guards came and pulled me out of the room. “Please!" I cried out as she was taken away, but Cedric did not bulge. *** “You can’t do this,” I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper. “Orders are orders,” Duncan replied, not meeting my gaze. “Get moving.” I turned back toward the forest. One last, desperate look in my eyes. I began walking, my shoulders slumped in defeat. It didn't take very long before I was back to my family’s home. I faced my parents, both relieved and disappointed, but more of the latter. It was as though they wouldn't have minded if I was dead, or they hoped I was. “You humiliated us,” my mother hissed. “Running off like that? Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” My heart could not be more broken, ‘but what was I expecting?’ “You sold me to a monster. You left me no choice.” I tried to defend myself bravely. My father stepped forward, his face a mask of fury. “We did what was best for you! Do you think you know better than us? You’re lucky he even wants you back after this stunt!” My heart pounded. “He doesn’t want me. He wants to own me, control me. And you just handed me over.” I couldn't believe we were back here –arguing over this again. A loud knock interrupted them. My father's face paled. “It’s him.” The door crashed open, and Ogar strode in, his eyes gleaming with anger. “You thought you could escape me, did you?” I backed away. My voice trembled. “Ogar, please, I—” He grabbed my arm, pulling me close. “Tell me who helped you.” I tried to pull away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Ogar’s grip tightened. “Don’t lie to me, girl. I can smell him on you. Who took you?” I whimpered, refusing to say anything. He leaned in, his voice menacing. “Tell me, or I’ll make you wish you had…” “I don’t know,” I yelled, but he only tightened his grip around my arm. I was almost so sure my hand was going to fall off. “You’re lying!” he roared, pushing me to the ground. “You think you can play games with me? I’ll show you what happens to traitors.” I closed my eyes, feeling his hot breath on my neck as he leaned in, a growl rumbling in his chest. “I don’t care what you think you know. You’re mine. I own you.” I was still trying to dust off my body and staring at the red blister his grip had caused, when Ogar picked me up again and pulled me out of the house. My parents did absolutely nothing, and I was hurting from the betrayal. Ogar was taking me away and I bowed my head, trying to come to terms with my death sentence, when… “Unhand her!” I heard a thick, baritone voice. A voice that forced me to lift my head up. There he was…My Knight in shining, glistening, eye blinding armor!
