June’s Pov
I didn’t know how long I cried after Nikolai left. Minutes? Hours? It felt like forever. My body ached in places I didn’t want to think about. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his face, felt his hands, remembered the way he took what he wanted without caring how much it hurt me. This man had killed my babies. He had ended two innocent lives with one bullet, and now he was using this body like it belonged to him. I should have been resting in bed with my twins growing inside me, dreaming about the future. Instead, I was trapped here, married to a murderer.
I finally forced myself up and walked to the big windows. The city lights stretched out below like a sea of stars, beautiful and cold. I looked up at the dark sky and whispered, “Mom… Dad… why is this happening to me? Why me? Did I do something wrong in my past life? Please… show me a way out of this mess.”
No answer came. Only silence.
I felt disgusting. Nikolai’s touch still lingered on my skin like dirt I couldn’t wash away. I went to the bathroom and turned the shower on as hot as it would go. I scrubbed my body hard, almost hurting myself, tears mixing with the water. How could a man who ran huge businesses be out there shooting people in a random restaurant? What kind of monster was he?
When I finally stepped out, my skin was red and my head throbbed. I took some pain relievers from the cabinet and crawled into bed, praying for sleep to take me away from everything.
The next morning, I woke to someone standing over me.
I startled hard, sitting up with a gasp. Betty was there, smiling down at me like it was the most normal thing in the world.
“What the f**k?” I breathed, heart racing. “How did you get in here?”
Betty laughed softly. “Sorry, I startled you. I just came to ask you something.”
I rubbed my eyes and checked the clock. It was only 7:14 a.m. “You could have asked me later. Why now? And why are you staring at me like that?”
She sat on the edge of the bed, still smiling. “Let’s just say I admire you a lot. I can stare at you if I want. You don’t have a problem with that, do you?”
In my head I thought, yeah, you admire me so much that you f****d my husband and now you’re obsessed with your own brother and me. This family is sick. But I forced a small smile. “No problem.”
Betty leaned closer. “Good. Now I have a question for you, and I want you to be truthful.”
“Anything,” I said carefully.
“Last night I saw my brother walking out of your room, fixing his clothes. Did you two have s*x?”
I could have lied to avoid drama, but I needed to know exactly what Betty’s game was. “Yes,” I answered quietly.
Betty’s eyes darkened with something hungry. “How was it? Was he big? Did he f**k you hard? Tell me everything.”
A crazy idea hit me. Maybe feeding her what she wanted would keep her from causing more trouble. I swallowed my disgust and described things that hadn’t happened, making it sound intense and passionate. “He was so big… so thick. He f****d me really hard. I’ve never been f****d like that before.”
I watched Betty’s face flush. She was getting turned on just hearing about her own brother. This family was truly crazy.
Betty bit her lip. “I told you to stay away from him, but I like hearing this. Maybe I’ll make an exception if you keep telling me how he f***s you. I need to know he’s treating my girl right.”
I forced myself to nod. “Don’t worry. I’ll tell you soon. I just need time to remember everything after the accident.”
Before she could say more, the door banged open. Sarah and Amelia burst in, all bright smiles and energy.
“Hey, girl!” Sarah called, acting like Betty wasn’t even there.
Amelia gave Betty a casual “Hi” and turned straight to me. “We missed you so much!”
Betty stood up with a sarcastic smile. “Looks like your friends are here. I’ll leave you to it.”
She walked out, closing the door a little too hard.
The moment she was gone, Amelia sat on the bed. “Girl, what was that about? Betty acting all possessive again?”
Sarah laughed. “I knew she wasn’t a fan of you getting close to her brother. When did she even come back?”
“I met her here when I returned from the hospital,” I said carefully.
Amelia waved her hand. “Enough of that. We brought you flowers to make you feel better. And lots of gossip. You need to catch up.”
“Thank you,” I said, trying to sound grateful.
Sarah leaned in. “Now tell us all the tea. Everything that happened between you and Nikolai last night. I want every single detail.”
I summarized as vaguely as I could, my mind racing to keep up. Amelia watched me with a strange look, like she sensed something was off.
Sarah kept pushing. “Come on, you look messed up. Go take a shower. We’ll wait. I don’t care if the accident f****d you up. I want my old Chloe back fast. Our plan worked. We made it into this house. You should be happy.”
I nodded quickly. “Yeah, true. I’ll freshen up. Wait here.”
A plan again?
I escaped to the bathroom, heart pounding. When I came out dressed in one of Chloe’s simple outfits, they were still talking.
Sarah pulled me down to sit. “So, when are you getting back on track? When are you starting modeling again? People are lined up for you. And now you have to work with Nikolai too. How do you plan to handle all that?”
“I… I don’t know yet,” I admitted.
Sarah grinned. “Let’s not talk about work now. You two are supposed to be on your honeymoon! I don’t know why Nikolai hasn’t taken you anywhere. But I know my girl. You’re going to seduce him. Give him that ass. f**k him good and hard until he can’t think straight.”
I forced a smile. “Yeah, I’ll definitely do that.”
They kept chatting, talking about meeting married men, sleeping with them without shame, laughing about it like it was normal. There was no guilt in their voices. Nothing. I sat there listening, trying to understand who these people really were and how I was supposed to fit in with them.
My head spun. This world was full of lies, secrets, and people who used each other without a second thought. And I was stuck right in the middle of it.
