Chapter 21

1375 Words
June’s Pov I froze in the garden, my heart slamming against my ribs. Leo stood a few feet away, watching me with a mix of amusement and confusion. I had been practicing Chloe’s voice out loud like a fool, trying to copy her confident tone, her sharp little laughs. Now he had heard everything. “I am so sorry,” he said quickly, raising his hands. “I didn’t mean to scare you. Are you okay?” I pressed a hand to my chest, trying to calm my breathing. “Yeah. I am fine. Just… startled.” He took a slow step closer, eyes gentle but curious. “Can I sit?” There was an empty chair opposite mine. I nodded. “Sure.” Leo sat down, resting his arms on his knees. For a moment he just looked at me, really looked, like he was trying to solve a puzzle. The silence stretched until it felt heavy. “No offense,” he said finally, voice low, “but why were you talking to yourself like that? Mimicking your own voice? It looked like you were practicing lines or something.” I laughed nervously, the sound too high. “I was bored. I just like hearing myself talk sometimes. Who wouldn’t want to listen to this voice?” Leo smiled, but it did not reach his eyes. “Valid reason. Still, if anyone else had seen you doing that, they might think you are losing your mind.” “People can think whatever they want,” I muttered. All of a sudden, Leo just stared at me. He did not say anything. He only looked straight into my eyes, like he was trying to see through me. Why did he always look at me like that? The room felt hotter than before. I could feel warmth on my cheeks and neck. My hands became a bit sweaty. In my mind, I kept asking myself questions. Did what I said sound unbelievable to him? Was that why he was looking so hard, trying to put pieces together? If they find out the truth, what will they do to me? Will they open up my body? I did not even know where my own body was right now. The main thing was that fear. I could not take the silence anymore. “Why are you looking at me?” I asked. Leo leaned back slightly. “I was just surprised that even though you said that we are fine now from everything that happened before, you know that you would never be fine with what happened with Freya. You did not even ask about Freya.” What the f**k? Another person? Who the f**k is Freya again? How many people did these people even know? From one person to another. “Why should we talk about Freya?” I said gently. “She is in the past.” I truly hoped so. “So she told you what happened,” Leo said. I paused for a second, deciding. “Yes. She told me what happened. And it is not my business right now because I have other things to do.” Leo made a small sound. “Hmm. All of a sudden it is not your business. I remember when the person literally forced us together. You introduced me to her and everything. You did everything to make me get her attention. And now it is not your business. Since when did Chloe change this much? When did it not become your business? Because even when the relationship was on, you kept buzzing her every single time, trying to know what was happening in our relationship. And all of a sudden, it is not your business.” I realized from his words that Chloe had introduced Freya to Leo. They dated, but something caused them to break up. I did not see Freya’s message clearly when I went through the phone earlier. I needed something simple to say. “Yeah, we talked about it and it is totally Freya’s choice.” Leo nodded slowly. “Okay.” He looked like he wanted to say another thing, but my phone started ringing. I checked the screen. It was Blue. Thank f*****g goodness. Who knows what else Leo was going to ask? I would not have had answers. “I have to take this call,” I said quickly. “I will catch up with you later.” “Okay,” Leo replied. I stood up and moved inside the room properly before answering. Blue’s voice came through loud and clear. “Come out for the dress design. You know I have a date right now, so you should do fast.” Typical Blue. “Why didn’t you tell me that you already committed?” I asked. “I will prepare what I am going to wear. Just hold on ten minutes. I will be there.” “Okay,” Blue said. “Well, there is a hot guy flirting with me right now, so I think it is going to keep me busy till you get here.” “Do not try to f**k anybody while I am not there,” I warned. “I’m going to try,” she replied with a laugh. I ended the call and literally started running. I do not even know why I ran so fast, but I hit someone hard. It was Nikolai. My body bounced off his strong chest and I fell to the floor. Nikolai looked down at me. “What are you doing, woman? And why are you rushing like a kid? Did something happen?” “No, no,” I said, getting up quickly. “I am sorry. My friend wants me to go shopping with her, and she called me right now, so I am trying to be fast.” He just replied with a short sound and walked away fast without another word. I shrugged. He was the person who f*****g asked me. Why did he have to ignore me? I moved out of his way and went into the side room. I took the quickest shower ever. The water felt good on my skin, but I did not waste time. I wore a normal brown sundress that felt light and comfortable. I slipped my feet into silky flats. Before I left, I checked Chloe’s bank code with my fingerprint. It opened. Yeah, sure. I am loaded. I went outside and told the driver to take me to the place. I was shocked that Nikolai did not come to ask me for the particular location. Maybe he still had it saved or he did not care. The driver took me there without questions. Inside the car, I sat quietly, scrolling through Chloe’s media again. I did it slowly this time because I did not want the driver to think I was crazy. The city passed by the windows. In no time, we reached the bar we were meant to meet first before going to the clothing store. I entered the bar but did not see Blue anywhere. I called her number again and again, but she did not pick up. I sat down at a table for a little while to wait. One of the waitresses was passing by with drinks. Suddenly, she stumbled and some cold liquid spilled on my arm and part of my dress. “Oh my f*****g goodness,” I said. “Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry!” the waitress apologized many times, looking nervous. I stood up quickly and dashed toward the restroom area to clean myself. That was when I saw them. Blue was pressed against the wall. A guy had her lifted up, her legs around his waist. Her pants were down, his trousers were also down. He was hammering inside her hard and fast. Blue’s back arched against the wall with every thrust. Her moans were low but clear. The guy gripped her thighs tightly, his hips moving without stopping. I froze right there, my eyes wide. The sounds of their bodies meeting filled the small space. Blue’s head tilted back, her mouth open in pleasure. The guy’s face was buried in her neck as he kept going.
