27Early on the morning of the summer solstice before the sun rose, Millson spilled the whole story to his wife, who listened with growing horror to a threadbare plan that assuredly meant violent death to someone. Moments after her mother disconnected, Christy entered the bedroom and saw the look of anguish on Yvonne's face. The two had grown much closer since the move and promised never to withhold the truth from the other again. So Yvonne Koopermann Millson had no choice but to share with her daughter what she just learned, plus all of the back story. With trembling lips Christy voiced what Yvonne already thought. "Mom, we have to go back. Dad—and Matt, too—are in danger." "No, my love," her mother replied as she caressed the teenager's face, "I have to go back. You are staying here."
