Kade was talking about weapons but I'd stopped listening three minutes ago.
We were crossing the yard when I spotted them near the kitchens, Sera and Maya standing close together, heads bent like they were sharing secrets. Maya said something and Sera laughed very hard, in a way that made her shoulders shake.
Kade stopped mid sentence when he saw Sera. His whole posture changed, softened in a way I'd never seen before she came here.
"We'll finish this later," he said, already moving toward her.
I followed because there wasn't much else to do.
Maya saw us first, her eyes moved to me for a second before going back to Sera. She leaned in close and whispered something I couldn't hear, whatever it was made Sera's face flush pink.
