Chapter 002: Her Motive

1126 Words
Lyra Dominic's POV Now, one might ask how I got myself into that situation when my main goal was to destroy the life of Rowan Calloway, even if he was the father of my daughter... Which was a secret I had managed to keep since I arrived at this place. *Flashback* "You killed her, didn't you?" I choked on my blood as more of it spurted out of my neck where I had been cut. My life was slowly seeping out of me, and the only thing I could do was hate myself over and over again for the decisions I made. "You lied to everyone that it was an illness, meanwhile it was you all along." The tears rolled down my eyes as I pressed against my neck to keep the blood from rushing out. Alpha Rowan didn't flinch, neither was there any change in his expression as he stood over me with a sharp knife which had a gleaming wicked blade that was covered in my blood. "You shouldn't have come back, Lyra." He said in a small voice. "That was your first mistake. You should have just stayed where you were." "She was my mother!" I gritted my teeth, more tears pouring from my eyes as the memories of ignoring her persistent calls haunted me. What if I had just picked up? Would things be any better? Would she still be alive? Would I have to suffer this fate? "She was the only thing I had in this world, and you took her from me, you devil!" A slow smile touched his lips and he dropped on one knees into the pool of my blood as he used the knife to slowly caress my face. "Is that so?" He c****d his head to the side and whispered in a low growl. "You really loved her that much but where were you when she was begging for her life? When she was waiting for you to call her back so she could tell you she was slowly dying?" He chuckled slightly and the pain in my chest worsened. "I... I..." The words failed to come out as I choked on more blood because Alpha Rowan had removed my hand from my neck, allowing the blood to spurt out everywhere. "I will kill you, Rowan! I swear to the heavens and the earth." I gritted my teeth with my last breath as more tears rolled down my eyes. "I don't care how many years or lifetimes it would take, but I will find you and always kill you in every chance I get." Rowan's lips curved into the most wicked smirk I'd ever seen him put on. "I'll be waiting, little one." He reached out his hands and slowly closed my eyes, and the last thing I could feel was the sharp blade slicing through my skin for the second time. And the darkness swallowed me whole. *Two Days Ago* I woke up, drenched with sweat, and my heart was hammering so badly that I thought it was going fall out. My fave was still covered in tears and my hands quickly flew around my neck because I could still feel it. Every action he took, the knife on my throat as he slit me open... I was still trying to figure out if it was a dream or something, when my phone began ringing on the sofa. I jumped up to pick it up, and my entire body stilled when I saw the caller ID. It was my mother. My hands shook slightly. Was this some sort of prank? Was I hallucinating? Mom was dead. She had been dead for months. I had watched them lower her into the ground while guilt ate me alive from the inside out. But her name was flashing on my phone, and my hands were trembling so badly I almost dropped it twice before I managed to swipe the green button. "Lyra? Baby?" It was unmistakably her voice. She was alive and real. "Are you there?" "Mom." I felt my chest tighten and a sob escaped from my throat. "Mom, I—" "Oh, sweetheart, don't cry. I know it's been so long. I know things have been hard." She paused, and I could hear her own voice shaking. "But I'm getting married, baby. I'm getting married and I need you here. I need my daughter with me on this day. His name is Rowan Calloway, and he's a really good man, sweetheart. I think you'll love him." Rowan Calloway? My blood turn cold. She was getting married to the man who killed her? What was this? What was happening? I rushed to my calendar while still on the call, just to realize that this was eight months before her death happened. The man who, in whatever vision or nightmare or past life I had just lived, had stood over my dying body with a knife in his hand and no mercy in his eyes. "Lyra? Are you still there?" "Yes." I forced the word out while thinking about my mother. She deserved happiness. She deserved to live. She deserved a good daughter who would take care of her and stop neglecting her. She deserved a man who would treat her like the queen she was, and Rowan Calloway was not that man. In my last life, I had declined because I was guilty for having a child with the man she was marrying. But now? I couldn't care less. I wouldn't let disaster happen the second time. "Yes, Mom. I'll come. I'll be there." "Oh, thank God." She exhaled like she'd been holding her breath for years. "I miss you so much, baby. I can't wait to see you." "I can't wait either." And I meant it. I meant it with every broken piece of my heart. * I was already on my way to crash the marriage in every way I could, but when I saw the happiness on mom's face as she stared into his soul, I knew it wouldn't work out. I would only end up making her hate me. No... I had to find another way to discredit Rowan in her eyes within less than eight months so she would divorce him. And that's why I was here in his study, fishing through his files while thinking he would be with my mom because it was their wedding night. And now? I was standing naked before my stepfather, my body still aching from the pleasure he wrenched out of me with nothing but his fingers. His dark eyes roamed over every inch of my exposed skin unhurriedly. "Not talking?" He chuckled darkly. "Then, I guess we will do this the hard way, Lyra."
