Chapter Thirteen
Lela closed the inn for the holidays. She sipped another cup of mint tea, gazing outside at the bright blue sky and the glistening snow beyond her dining room window while Christmas carols played softly in the background.
Lela couldn’t help checking her phone for a message from Nathan even though she knew he would be completely ensconced with his boys. She sighed and put her phone down. Worry gnawed her peace of mind. I feel like he’s keeping something from me. He’s transparent about everything else but his family, so it must be concerning them in some way. The sound of tires crunching on new snow drew her to her front door. The headlights blinked out as she stepped onto the porch, and three doors opened to reveal her three children carrying suitcases.
