The sunrise ends.
But somehow…
A small piece of it follows me into the house.
Maggie disappears upstairs without another word.
Probably to change before Ana wakes up and starts asking questions.
I head to my room.
My shoes come off first.
Then my hoodie.
I collapse onto the bed.
I should be exhausted.
I’ve barely slept.
Instead…
I keep replaying Maggie’s face.
The way she looked at the sky.
Like she’d never seen something so beautiful.
I wasn’t expecting her to like it that much.
But it was the only birthday present I could afford to give.
I close my eyes.
Almost immediately, I hear Mom’s voice.
“The sky has special healing abilities, Nate. But the timing is important. If you catch it at the right moment… sometimes it heals people.”
