Chapter Two

2026 Words
Alexander I knew things were going be bad when I received the frantic phone call of Mrs. Fletcher warning me that there had been a major a mix up with the employment of a house sitter. She had phoned to warn us to expect a girl but by the time I had taken the call my hot head brother had already entered the houses. And I knew. I just knew he would beast out before I could even get to him. What I hadn’t expected as I raced through the hallway was for him to just be standing there as the girl slipped under water. Unconscious, with her blood turning the water pink. I didn’t even think about it as I pulled her body into my arms, the blood from her head staining my designer t-shirt crimson within seconds. And all the while my i***t brother literally stood there, his face half changed with his mouth hanging open. Like the over grown fool he was. Since then Julian had made his disapproval known, loudly. Slamming door and stomping around like an angry toddler. He was making enough noise to wake the dead, but sleeping beauty? She still slept. If she didn’t wake up soon, I would have to call in for medical assistance. I wasn’t sure we even knew a human doctor, and a shifter doctor of any kind would just complicate things even further. My eyes glanced at her, heart shaped face, golden lashes fluttering against cheeks sprinkled with freckles. I had tucked the thick bed spread high under her chin, it wouldn’t do any good to be caught ogling an unconscious woman and by god my eyes wanted to ogle her. It had taken all my self-control not to feast on the sight of her naked body when I slipped her out of her wet clothes and into one of my t-shirts. She was so much smaller than me it covered her easily from shoulders to knee. So, I kept my eyes on her face and on that bright hair, which had left a red stain on my pillows as it dried. Shaking my head, more to clear my thought than anything else I reached out to trace a line on her cheek with my finger and froze as her eyes fluttered open. For a second, she looked at me with wonder and then her eyes flew wide, fear making them bright and my heart plummeted as she scooted back, away from me. Her back pressed up against the head board. The heavy quilt pulled tight to her chin as it would protect her. “Hey, you’re awake” it took some serious effort to keep my voice light, the last thing I needed was her to freak out again. “what…what are you?” she was crying and stuttering, and every atom of my body wanted to hold her, which would just make her freak out even more. So, I kept my voice soft. “I’m Alexander but call me Alex, my brother Julian gave you a bit of a fright and you hit your head pretty badly” “Your brother?” Her voice was still shaky but there was an element of defiance in it. I respected it. This wasn’t a woman who would suffer fools lightly. I nodded, yeah, she had defiantly seen my brothers other face, there was no other explanation for the fear in her eyes when she looked at me. Most women looked at me with lust, most women and even some men worshipped us, which was the reason for our global success but this woman? This beautiful unassuming woman looked at me with a mixture of fear and curiosity. I shrugged, giving her my best smile. It was a smile that made women around the world swoon. It seemed to have no effect on her what’s so ever. “He’s my twin brother, same face” I made a show of pointing jokingly at the hair “different hair though, so its pretty easy to tell us apart right now” Hopefully my joking demeaner would lighten the mood, but I could tell her face that she had questions. “His face wasn’t human” “You hit your head pretty hard” I touched the thick swathe of bandage I had wrapped around her head, smiling even wider when she didn’t flinch away built, I knew she didn’t entirely believe me, and I liked her even more for it. This wasn’t some air head fan. In fact, she didn’t even look as if she knew who we were which was a welcomed bonus. “I’ve seen you on tv” she settled herself, the tension in her shoulders disappearing as she stared at my face. “I have, haven’t I? You’re a musician?” I settled back on my chair, slinging my long legs over the arm. “You don’t know us?” She shrugged, paling slightly as the movement made a wave of pain shoot through her head. “I’m not really one to follow modern music trends” a wave of colour flushed her cheeks and I had to stifle a moan. What the hell was wrong with me that such a simple human woman could make me instantly hard just by blushing. I shifted uncomfortably in my chair, trying to hide the instant swelling in my jeans. This was totally unchartered territory. I was usually the one who inspired the instant lust not the other way around. But I couldn’t deny her pull. And I knew my brother felt it as well, otherwise he wouldn’t have been acting like such a morainic goon. It was if she was the siren and her siren song had us entranced. When really it should be the other way around but there was no trace of our usual effect in her eyes. They were clear, clearer than I would have expected after such a fall. “That’s ok, it’s nice you’re not a screaming fan, I’m not sure my head could take it not with my brother making the racket he is” I laughed, and my heart thudded in my chest as she laughed along with me. If it got any louder, she would be able to hear it just like I could hear hers. My smile got wider as her heart beat sped up. The siren pheromones might not be influencing her, but she defiantly liked what she saw. And that pleased me more than I cared to admit. Hannah It was a struggle to keep my breathing under control as I surveyed the tall man in front of me, his impossibly long legs flung carelessly over the chair. He looked so relaxed sitting there, and so handsome he made my chest ache. Like he had just stepped off the cover of a magazine. Of course, he was a super star, even I was aware of who he was, you would have to live under a rock or on a different planet to not of heard of them, so he may well have just come from a photoshoot. My god, it was hard to concentrate when he touched me, just a slight brush of fingers as he touched the bandage around my head, but it was enough to send shivers running through my body. Was this instant lust? Because head injury or not if he kept looking at me with those big brown eyes, I would throw myself at him. Taking a deep breath, I made myself listen to what he was saying, his eyes were twinkling at me, laughter just below the surface and I realized I had totally missed his last question, I had been far to busy checking him out. And he knew it, I could tell just by the way his smile widened and his eyes glinted. colour flushed my cheeks again. I swore under my breath, blushing the curse of the pale and ginger. “Sorry zoned out, there didn’t I?” I tried for nonchalant. “I’m a little star struck” He c****d one eye brow, and my heart did that flip flop thing again. Was it possible to be attracted to an eyebrow? “I thought you didn’t know who we were” There was laughter in his voice. “I know who you are, I just haven’t listened to any of your music, well maybe I’ve heard one or two but its not really my kind of thing, and now I’m rambling” My brain was screaming at my mouth to shut up, but it seemed my mouth had other ideas. “I’ve never met a superstar before, let alone had one tend my bleeding head and...” I glanced down at the charcoal t shirt I was wearing. It wasn’t mine, I frowned hard, my hand clutching my head as pain rushed through me. “did you change my clothes?” I was pretty sure that I had stripped down to my underwear to get into the tub which meant I had been half naked when I fell. Half-naked and wet. “Of course, he changed your clothes, you were wet and bleeding all over the place” My eyes travelled to the door. Julian stood there, tray in his hands and his face murderous. I shrank back instinctively. There was no sign of the monster I had seen earlier, his face was just as handsome as his brothers but where Alex was open and friendly, Julian’s held nothing but anger and dislike. “Its fine, I was a total gentleman, no peeking or anything” Alex shot me a wink, but even the thought of him seeing me in my old tattered underwear made me cringe. What must they think of me? “Is that tray for Hannah?” he rose from his chair, shielding me for a second from view as if to protect me from his brothers’ eyes. It seemed Julian had other ideas though as he stepped around his brother and up to my left side. “yes, it’s for” he paused, and I was pretty sure I could see him inhale sharply. Did he just sniff me? “Hannah” he plopped the tray on my lap, the steaming bowl of soup sloshing over the sides and onto my fingers. I couldn’t help the “Ouch” That escaped my lips. I couldn’t even breath when the offending red fingers were suddenly in his hand. He bought them up to his lips and froze as if aware for the first time what he was doing. His eyes, the same as his brother went wide with shock. He dropped my hand as if burnt him, and if looks could kill then I would be dead. He shot an equally evil look behind him at his brother. “s**t” he stalked out of the room and I couldn’t help but watch him go. I was going to hell, I grinned at myself. It was undeniable that I found them both insanely attractive. The kind one. And the angry one. They were like opposite ends of the same person, just split into two. I picked up my spoon, damn them and their stupid pretty faces. Being this attracted to two men was something I wasn’t ready for. I almost welcomes the burn on my tongue as I took my first mouthful of soup. anything to stop my mind wandering because there would be no way they were attracted to me. I had obviously hit my hard harder than I thought if I was even entertaining that possibility.
