Chapter Fifteen

Hannah

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I finally headed down to the kitchen the next morning but it sure as hell wasn’t the sight of Lyla, in all her tight tanned glory naked in the hot tub. Like naked as the day she was born naked.

Maybe she wasn’t born, I told myself as she threw her hands above her head in an outrageous stretch. Maybe she was hatched. Like a snake.

That really did sound more likely.

“Good morning Hannah” She said sweetly, she stood up. Actually, stood up in all her gorgeous nakedness and padded across to the door I was standing in. enveloping me in a wet hug. I couldn’t help it my eyes darted to the twins as they sat, relaxed with their coffee. They didn’t seem bothered by a naked woman walking around at all.

Well I did. Jealousy or not what the hell were they playing at? All of them? They couldn’t ask me to be exclusive one day and then be sat with another woman, minus her clothes the next day.

“Morning Lyla” I extracted myself from her arms, giving her a pointed look which she ignored.

“Ohh sweetie, don’t look at me like that” She gave a tinkling laugh. “They have seen me naked plenty of times. It doesn’t bother them, in the slightest” She wrapped her arms around Julian’s bare shoulders. Her n*****s brushing the back of his neck. “Does it?”

He glanced back, shrugged and threw me a smile that was half sheepish, half apologetic.

“Well ok then…” I knew my voice was cold, I couldn’t help it. Julian threw me a look which I ignored.

“Put some clothes on for god sake Lyla” Alex threw over his shoulder coldly, he pulled me by my hand until I was in the circle of his arms. “Good morning beautiful, are you hungry? Julian can cook you something”

Julian was already climbing to his feet.

“I’m good” I was still sulking, yes, I was hungry, but I was more than capable of grabbing myself food. All I wanted to do was get away from Lyla as she pranced about without a stitch on.

“You may as well get used to them looking after you, you know “She threw back her long mane. “That’s what shifter men do for their mates”

Mates? My eyebrows disappeared into my bed hair. “Mates?”

“We will explain soon” Julian was nuzzling my neck, moving my hair aside. Wow they were very full on this morning.

One night of fooling around and a few life changing admissions and they suddenly became the most affectionate men in the world.

“Its what you are to us” Alexander pulled me on to his lap. “It’s like Marriage but more. It means forever” I blinked rapidly several times. Did he just say forever, I was pretty sure he did.

Lyla laughed. “Way to scare the poor girl, what are you going to tell her next that she wont ever be allowed to leave with her memories of you intact? That a big scary dragon man will go rummaging around in her brain”

What. The. Actual. f**k.

“Lyla” Julian turned on her with a snarl.

“Sorry, sorry but you need to be honest with her otherwise the council will eat her alive. Sorry Hannah” She sounded and looked contrite, but I wasn’t fooled. She may have Julian and Alexander fooled but not me.

“What do you mean I won’t be allowed to leave?”

“If you want to leave no one can stop you” Julian said against my neck.

“we don’t want you to though” Alex added.

“So, I can just walk out the front door now?” I started plucking nervously at a thread on my shorts., nervous because I knew the answer, I had always known the answer really. I had just chosen to ignore it.

At least they had the good grace to look uncomfortable.

“Do you want to leave?”

“Answer the question, can I leave at any moment? Can I leave right now?” I pulled myself out of the gasp.

“No”

“Didn’t think so” Taking a deep shaky breath I willed myself to calm down. Screaming and shouting wouldn’t do one bit of good. I had to keep my head straight. “Ok I need a little time to process. You guys have fun” I knew I was being sarcastic, more than sarcastic that last comment was pure bitchiness, but I was past caring. “I’ll be in my room, if I’m allowed out of your sight that is?”

I didn’t t wait for them to answer as I moved away, grabbing a bottle of water as I went.

Screw them all!!

“Hannah” I was shocked to find Alexander staring at me from the door way. Not shocked because one of them had followed me. Shocked because it was normally Julian who came.

“Just go away” Tears threatened to engulf me. How could I have been so calm last night, finding out they weren’t even human and be such a mess this morning. I had always known that leaving wasn’t an option. But to hear them say it. Yeah that did it for me.

“I said take your f*****g hands off me Alex” I tore my hand away from him, my voice a scream. “What kind of sick twisted f**k are you? Trying to get me into bed, getting me photographed in compromising positions and all the while I’m your PRISONER” I wiped angrily at the tears. “You are monsters, both of you!”

Alexander

“Hannah You don’t mean that!” she couldn’t because if she did then we had lost her for good.

“LEAVE ME ALONE ALEX, JUST LEAVE ME THE f**k ALONE” She whirled on me then, small fists flying. I let her hit me. It was the least I deserved. We had been acting like monsters. We wanted to keep her, it hadn’t mattered to us what she wanted, what might be best for her because we were to c**k sure of ourselves. “I want to be able to see my family, my friends. Hell, even my mum and dad” I captured her fists against my chest as she started sobbing. “I want to be able to go home” She sobbed into my chest, making it slick with her tears.

“If that’s what you want Hannah, if that’s what you want” I cooed into her hair. Taking in the smell of her. I didn’t want to lose her ever but if she wanted to leave I wouldn’t, no couldn’t stop her. I would not be the reason she was unhappy not now and not ever.

“But then I won’t remember…?” she raised a tear stained face up to mine, her eyes puffy.

“You won’t remember us no; the council won’t allow that. We would remember you though, we would never forget”

I swallowed hard. It was the truth and like many truths saying it out loud caused so much pain I felt like I couldn’t breathe. We would never forget her.

“So, its forever or forget?”

How poetic did that sound? I wished with my whole heart that it was that easy. “Not quite, we broke quite a few rules just by telling you what we are. The council may decide that wiping your memory is best” They might also decide that now she knew about shifters she would be better off placed somewhere else. Their were others in the community who did well with Human mates. The dragons for one but I didn’t tell her that.

“The council, decides who you spend your life with?”

“They can, if we had mated, they can’t touch you! You could spend your life with us without question” I couldn’t help myself, I wanted her to agree. I wanted it even though it would mean her saying good bye to her whole life.

“and that means forever”

“Forever”

I felt her body shake as she controlled herself. “And the council is coming here? Today?”

I nodded, not that she could see it. She was so tiny in my arms, with her face pressed against my chest. “Yes, they will be here soon”

“And they can force me to leave, force me to forget?”

I could tell by her voice that not remembering was scaring her more than anything she had seen or heard since she had been here.

“I don’t want to forget”

“We don’t want you to either” Julian stalked towards us, his skin catching the light as it streamed through the floor to ceiling windows. “We don’t want to lose you, but we can’t make you want us either, Not forever. I know you had always planned on leaving at the end of the summer. We knew” He corrected. “We just thought we had more time before you had to decide”

“If you want to stay Hannah, we will fight for you” I added. I ran the pad of my thumb down her cheek, it came away wet,

“I can’t give you forever” She sounded sad. “Its too soon for me to give you that”

“then we will fight for more time” Julian kissed her hand. “We could make you happy Hannah”

“Hopefully the council will allow us to prove it to you” I added.
