Chapter Four: The Mission Begins.

Jeffrey POV After the morning lectures, the classroom slowly emptied—voices buzzing, chairs scraping across the floor. I stretched, my eyes catching Clara’s movement. She looked different today. No skirt. She wore the trouser version of the school uniform. The sharp cut and clean lines gave her a masculine edge. Oddly enough… it suited her. “Jeffrey,” she said with a soft smile, “how are you?” “Fine,” I replied, eyes fixed on my desk. She tilted her head, voice lighter. “Want to see a movie this evening?” I hesitated for half a second. “No. I have other matters to attend to.” “Please?” Her tone held a tiny spark of hope. I stood straighter, my voice like steel. “I said no. I’m busy.” Without another glance, I walked out. My footsteps echoed down the empty corridor until I reached the rooftop—my sanctuary. Here, the world was quiet. The wind hummed against the rails, carrying the faint sounds of the schoolyard below. Calm. Solitude. Mine. --- Clara POV I clenched my jaw as I walked down the front hall. Why does this boy act like I’m invisible? I’m not used to being ignored—especially not by someone like him. On the way to the cafeteria, three figures stepped into my path. Lydia. Precious. Scarlet. The queen bees of intimidation. Lydia smirked. “Let me warn you now. Stay away from Jeffrey Smith.” I blinked slowly. “Seriously?” “He doesn’t talk to anyone,” she sneered. “You think you’re special?” I gave a soft, amused laugh. “Well, at least he talks to me.” That hit. Her eyes flared. She shoved me—hard. I stumbled, caught myself, and tightened my fists. I could knock her flat right here. The thought was tempting. But no… keep a low profile. I straightened. My voice dropped cold. “Don’t ever push me again. Because if you do, I swear I’ll put you on the ground.” Precious gasped. Scarlet stepped back. Lydia’s jaw tensed. “Don’t cross his line,” she snapped. “And don’t get too comfortable in that seat. It’s supposed to be mine.” I narrowed my eyes. “Sorry, Princess. Not moving.” They stormed off, but my heart was still racing. I hate bullies. But this isn’t the time to cause a scene. --- That evening, Jessica met me after school. Bright and bubbly, she dragged me through town, sharing snacks and laughing at ridiculous street posters. We ended up at a small restaurant, where she talked about school, books, and her brother. I told her I lived with my nanny, that my parents had passed. I left out the “Lim dynasty” part. Better to keep that to myself. Later, we went to the cinema for a horror film. Jessica grinned. “I love horror. Jeffy got me into it.” So… he likes horror too? Interesting. The lights dimmed. Someone slid into the seat beside us. Jessica beamed. “Brother! You came!” I turned—and there he was. Jeffrey. He gave a small nod. I nodded back. Progress. After the movie, Jessica clung to his arm. “Let’s have dinner! All three of us!” “I have somewhere to be,” he said. “Always.” She playfully smacked his arm. “Just this once?” He glanced at her, then at me. “Alright. Just for today.” We ate at a quiet diner. Not much talking, but the air between us was calm. When we finished, he stood. “Goodnight.” “Goodnight,” Jessica said. “Goodnight,” I echoed softly. As we parted ways, I made myself a promise. Winning Jeffrey’s attention isn’t a game anymore. It’s my mission. And I don’t lose. To be continued......
