May
"Miss May Sheridan, No need for that. You can go straight up.” A male voice said interrupting the security man from doing the usual security checks at the entrance of Carter's & Co international.
Th voice makes the security man who had been about to scan my bag freeze, "Sir.” He chokes out.
I turn to see who had spoken, I knew immediately that I’d never met the man because he is not someone that can be easily forgotten or ignored. I would remember him, he’s tall about 7 feet?, a bulky body build that looks like he’s made up of pure muscles and a clean shaved head, not a single strand visible. He looks like a wrestler who has a suit as his costume. He is giving off a vibes I interpret as mess with me if you hate your life. Scary and exactly what I was looking for.
"Thank you. You are?” I ask
"Rook. Mr Carter’s personal bodyguard.” His voice is gruff and stead.
I collect my bag from the security, "Lead the way.” I say to Rook.
I trail behind him as he leads the way to a private elevator ahead,I know it’s private because it is written on a sign overhead it, even if I’d missed it I could have concluded it to be so because it has two bodyguards standing on either side of the door. I ignore the sleek and posh look of the lobby, a clear distinction from the first time I’d seen it all those years ago.The
Curious glances from the people milling around dressed in typical office wears, make me feel confident about my appearance. They look at me with curiosity mixed with respect, they probably think I must be someone important if I have Rook escorting me in. Some of the passerby even murmur greetings to me. I guess I achieved the boss lady look I was aiming for. I’m wearing a smart looking long sleeve jumpsuit in black, the jumpsuit has a sloping v neck, I’d adorn my neck with a simple gold necklace and tiny gold stud in my ears. Coupled with a red bag and red shoe. I’d gone light on my makeup, a little bit of powder, mascara, cat eye liner and red lipstick. Red and Black, such a powerful combination.
A slight breeze ruffles my hair as I increase my stride to keep up with Rook. I’d gone for a simple wavy curls on my blonde hair, it probably looks so bouncy and glossy you’d never believe I used to have straight straws for hair when I was in high school, I used to hate my hair then, but during pregnancy with the twins my hair had undergone a complete natural makeover. At first I thought that I’d loose the bouncy and glossy quality after giving birth, but fortunately it was here to stay.
The guards at the elevator give Rook a sharp nod and one uses a key card to activate the elevator. The elevator slides open and Rook and I step in.
The elevator climbs higher, I use the excuse of fixing up my hair to glance at Rook. Definitely dangerous. The ride goes on for about a minute before it stops and the doors slide open.
I step out behind Rook as he leads the way into a mini lobby. The lobby is well furnished with a waiting area occupied by empty chairs and toward the other end of it is a reception desk. A female receptionist mans the entrance of another door.
"He’s been expecting you.” She says to me, "Follow me.” She stops in front of the door.
"Go right in.” Grabbing the handle, she opens the door and steps to the side creating ample room for me to breeze pass her.
One look at the man in the office and I recognize him immediately. He stands in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, his hands in the pocket of the flawless tailored suit that molds to his body effortlessly. I haven’t seen his face yet but everything about him screams wealth. As expected from the man that was named"Billionaire of the year” by Vanity Magazine. He won Forbes award for the ”Innovative Billionaire of the year”. Verity magazine named him among the "Top 10 Handsome Business Guru”.
Having only seen him from behind I can tell he still exudes confidence. It’s always been in his stance, the way he carries his shoulder, oozing dominance. Everything about his posture bellows business . And today, my business is his business.
Even the sound of the door shutting behind the receptionist doesn’t induce movement from him.
I take another step into the large office. Glancing around, I confirm it’s just me and him in here.
Shaking my head, I try to stop thinking of the way he fills the Black suit out effortlessly. From my preparation research, I know how he looks like now. A huge difference from how he looked like then. His jet black hair which he used to style in a bob is currently arranged in a in a simple undercut style and his sky blue eyes looked so bleak in the picture I scoured online.
He turns, when I finally catch a glimpse of his face I almost kneel over in shock. Because the pictures online didn’t do him justice. He looks so magnetic, his black hair gleaming with light from the sun streaming in from the huge windows. His eyes as cold as a predator.
"It’s been awhile, May,” Benjamin drawls, his scowl making me squirm. I forgot how sexy his voice is, especially with my name on his lips.
"Benjamin.” I say trying to control my body’s reaction to his voice. His voice always had a sensuous impact on me. Honestly I’d tried to forget he ever existed. But it’s hard to do when I see him every day in my son Alistair. His son is a carbon copy of him. The shiny wrist watch that glisten on his hand, is probably more expensive than the second hand car I use. When we’d been together he hadn’t looked like this. He was the son of a millionaire philanthropist but he never showed off. He was always dressed unbelievably causal compared to the way he stands in front of me right now.
Benjamin smiles but the gesture puts me on high alert. His smile is as that of a predator. My insides are scrambled, and I feel utterly disarmed by the way he’s looking at me.
That’s going to be an issue, no part of my plan involves me still being attracted to him. I had nearly forgotten how intense the chemistry between us was. This is a wrench in my plan.
