Ivy's POV
Morning came far too quickly.
I barely slept.
Every time I closed my eyes, I heard the melody Dante had played the night before. It had followed me into my dreams, lingering like a question I couldn't answer.
How could the same man who had calmly taken a life also play the piano with such sadness?
Nothing about Dante Moretti made sense.
And maybe…
That was the most dangerous thing about him.
A soft knock came at my bedroom door.
"Miss Carter?" Mrs. Eleanor called.
"It's time to begin your duties."
"I'm coming."
I quickly dressed in my black uniform and tied my red hair into a loose ponytail.
When I looked in the mirror, I hardly recognized myself.
Three days ago, I had been delivering food across the city.
Now….
I lived in the home of the most feared man in the country.
Life had a strange sense of humor.
Mrs. Eleanor handed me a small leather notebook.
"What's this?"
"The boss's schedule."
I opened it.
Every hour of Dante's day was planned.
Business meetings.
Training.
Phone calls.
Meals.
Even the exact time he preferred his coffee.
"He really lives by a schedule."
Mrs. Eleanor smiled.
"He hates suprises."
"I've noticed."
"Your job isn't just cleaning."
"You make sure his day runs smoothly."
"If he has a meeting, the files are ready."
"If he leaves, his suit is prepared."
"If he trains, fresh towels are waiting."
I nodded carefully.
"So… I just stay one step ahead."
"Exactly."
Later that morning….
I knocked gently on Dante's office door.
"Come in."
He didn't look up from the documents spread across his desk.
I placed his coffee beside him.
"Your nine o'clock meeting begins in fifteen minutes."
He signed another page.
"I know."
"I also prepared the files Mrs. Eleanor mentioned."
This time, he looked up.
His icy ivory eyes rested on me for a moment.
"You've learned quickly."
"I'm trying."
His gaze drifted to the papers.
"They're in the correct order."
"I thought it might save your time."
For a second…
He simply stared at me.
Then he gave a small nod.
"Good."
One word.
But somehow….
It felt like praise.
The rest of the day passed quietly.
I organized his office, watered the plants in the Library, and helped Mrs. Eleanor prepare dinner.
The mansion had started to feel less frightening.
Not because Dante had changed.
Because I was beginning to understand how his world worked.
There were rules.
Everyone knew them.
Everyone respected them.
No one crossed them.
That afternoon, I carried fresh towels toward the mansion's private gym.
The door was slightly open.
I knocked softly.
No answer.
Thinking it was empty, I stepped inside.
Then I froze.
Dante stood in the center of the room.
His shirt lay discarded on a nearby bench.
Sweat glistened across his broad shoulders as he struck a heavy punching bag again and again.
Each punch landed with incredible force.
His breathing was steady.
Controlled.
His body was marked with scars.
One stretched across his ribs.
Another one ran over his shoulders.
Several more covered his back.
Old wounds.
The kind that never truly disappeared.
Before I could step back…
He spoke.
"You've been standing there for thirty seconds."
I nearly dropped the towels.
"I…I'm sorry."
"I thought the room was empty."
"It wasn't."
"I can come back later."
"You're already here."
I swallowed nervously and placed the towels on a nearby bench.
As I turned to leave….
He asked,
"What do you think?"
I blinked.
"What?"
"My scars."
I looked away.
"I wasn't staring."
"You were."
"I…."
He walked closer.
"I asked a question."
I took a slow breath.
"They look painful."
"They were."
I hesitated.
"I'm sorry."
He frowned slightly.
"Why are you apologizing?"
"Because…. someone hurt you."
Silence.
No fear.
No judgement.
Just honesty.
For the first time….
Dante looked genuinely surprised.
Most people saw the scars and imagined the monster.
I saw the wounds.
He looked away first.
"You're dismissed."
I nodded quietly and left the room.
As the door closed behind me, my heart was racing.
Not because I'd seen him shirtless.
But because, for one brief moment…
I'd caught a glimpse of the man behind the legend.
That evening, Marco entered Dante's office.
"The meeting with the Romano family has been confirmed."
Dante nodded without looking up.
Then Marco smiled faintly.
"The staff likes her."
Silence.
"So?"
"They say Miss Carter makes the house feel… lighter."
Dante stopped signing the document.
"Lighter?"
"She talks to everyone."
"She remembers their names."
"She even helped one of the gardeners replant the roses this afternoon."
Dante looked out the window toward the gardens.
Without realizing it….
His eyes searched for a flash of bright red hair.
He found it.
Ivy was laughing at Mrs. Eleanor over something neither of them could stop smiling about.
His lips almost curved upward.
Almost.
Marco noticed.
"You smiled."
"I did not."
"You almost did."
Dante's expression hardened.
"Get out."
Marco chuckled under his breath.
"Yes, Boss."
As night settled over the estate, I stood by my bedroom window, looking at the stars.
Somewhere across the city…
Emma was sleeping in her hospital bed.
I hoped she knew I was doing all of this for her.
I rested my forehead against the cool glass.
Three days.
Only three days had passed.
Yet everything about my life had changed.
I still feared Dante Moretti.
I still didn't understand him.
But each day….
The line between monster and man became a little more blurred.
And I wasn't sure which truth frightened me more.
