A Week Later
As I enter my room, my phone buzzes with Will’s message.
Will: Are you ready, Professor?
I stare at the screen blankly, sitting on the sofa. This was supposed to be our first weekend trip together. And I’m about to ruin it.
Me: I’m sorry… we have to cancel the trip.
It doesn’t take him long to reply.
Will: What? Why? Are you okay?
I bite my lip, feeling guilty as I type.
Me: My mom came suddenly. I have to stay with her this weekend. I’m really sorry.
A long pause. I imagine his face, the way disappointment would flicker in his eyes, and it stabs at my heart.
Will: It’s fine. We’ll go next weekend. Enjoy with your mom.
