My cheeks were burning when I sat down at the table. Roxy was sitting on the other side, looking at me with her head tilted to the side. “Maybe you should have taken a shower before coming down?” she said, her nose crinkling.
“Oh, shut it! It’s not like you have never smelled like this before” I retorted.
“But I always shower after” she stated.
“I had forgotten about patrol, ok?” I said, “I’m sorry”
Her face softened, and she puckered her lips “Apology accepted”
I chuckled and ate my breakfast.
“So, how did it go?” she asked suddenly, and I nearly dropped my bagel
“What do you mean?” I asked, wiping cream cheese from my chin.
She rolled her eyes.
“Are the two of you together now?” she said
“Who is together?” I heard Sascha ask behind me, and turned around, only slightly surprised to see her with Vic.
“Mira and Matthew” Roxy explained
“Oh” Sascha said and sat down next to me. Vic sat down next to her.
“So?” Roxy said impatiently “Are you mated now?”
“I… guess so” I said, and the heat rose up in my cheeks again.
“So, he wasn’t just growling at me yesterday because he is a douchebag?” Vic asked with mock surprise.
I glared at him and he laughed.
“Just kidding!” he said, raising his arms in defense “I know he is not a douchebag”
“You have gotten protective of your mate” Sascha said with genuine surprise.
I wouldn’t call it protective; I just didn’t think Vic had any right to insult Matthew like that.
“Nah, he has covered for me on multiple occasions.” Vic said, “He’s cool. Congrats girl.”
“Yeah, I’m happy for you” Sascha said and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, giving me a small squeeze.
I looked at Roxy, who sent me a dashing smile. I still felt a little knot in my stomach whenever I thought about her past with Matthew.
Roxy and I left for patrol. We weren’t going to be back until after dinner, and we had packed a bag with food. I was carrying the bag as we walked towards the woods.
“Wait!” I said and turned towards Roxy, right before we reached the edge of the forest where we usually shift.
“What?” Roxy said puzzled, looking around on alert.
“I have to ask you something. I couldn’t ask you yesterday as Sascha was with us the entire time.”
“O-kay?” she said, still confused.
“Are you really, totally, 100% ok with me and Matthew being together?” I asked. My heart was racing.
“Yeah?” she said. I looked at her intensely and she rolled her eyes. “Ok, fine! Yes, I am ok now. It was hard at first, but I am really ok now. I have even started hanging out with a new guy, ok?”
“What?! Who?” I asked surprised.
“Just some guy. It’s purely physical.” I opened my mouth to ask more, but she cut me off, “Should we get going? The sooner we’re off, the sooner you’re back home with Matthew”
She shifted and took off. I followed.
“Wait!” I called after her in mind-speak. “Who is he?” I heard her sigh in my head.
“His name is Shaun.” There was a guy in one of my computer science classes called Shaun. He was failing the class, and he spent all his time surfing around on random websites. More than once he had crashed his computer because he had too many windows open. I had only talked with him a few times, but he seemed to be on the low end of the IQ scale.
“Shaun” I mused, but Roxy ignored me.
We passed the biggest herd of deer living in the forest. They caught our scent and scattered. We weren’t going to hunt them, but they didn’t know that. The only time we hunted deer was when a herd was getting too big or when they were fighting over the same territory. Sometimes we found a dying buck who had lost a fight and killed it to end its suffering. Then we would bring the body back to the village and the kitchen staff would use it for dinner. It didn’t have to be deer, there were other types of animals living in the woods, such as rabbits, foxes, bears and even some types of wild cats like cougars and lynx.
The bears and wild cats would sometimes attack us if we come too close to their offspring or if they’re on the point of starvation. So far, I had never heard of anyone being killed by a wild animal, but then again, they didn’t really stand much of a chance. We were bigger than a normal wolf, although not as big as a bear could get.
If we were attacked by a wild animal, protocol would be to just run away if possible, and if not, incapacitate the animal. A few times we had had to kill it.
We got to the river that divided our part of the woods with the old Luna pack territory. We made our way to the bridge that had been built as a shortcut between the two villages. On the other side we saw another patrol and we howled in greeting. They responded and walked out on the bridge. We did the same and met them halfway. “How is everything on your side?” one of them asked. It was an old Night pack member that I didn’t know. “No troubles to report. The Shadow pack has been spotted a few times, but nothing suspicious” Roxy said, “How about yours?”
“We haven’t seen the Shadow pack in weeks, which is odd, but we’re not reacting to it just yet.”
We parted ways and Roxy and I made our way back towards the mansion.
It was past 9 in the evening when I got back to my room. Roxy and I had stopped by the kitchen to steal some leftovers.
I was unpacking the shopping bags that I never even got started on yesterday before Matthew interrupted. The thought of Matthew filled me with longing, and I called out to him in my head. A few minutes later I heard my door open and Matthew walked in. I turned around and he wrapped me in his arms.
I reached around his neck and pulled him down into a kiss. I hadn’t expected I would miss him this much.
He lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around his hips. He placed a knee on my bed.
“Wait, wait, wait!” I said “I really need a shower”
He smirked and kissed me on the cheek before he whispered in my ear “Do you want some company in there? Or we could use mine instead”
“I’m still jealous that you have your own personal shower” I stated.
“Well, feel free to use it any time you like. It’s also yours now” he said with a twinkle in his eyes.
I gathered a change of clothes, my shower supplies, and a towel. Matthew was holding the door for me and I kissed him on the cheek as I passed.
He opened his door and let me enter, bending down to kiss me on the shoulder once I got inside.
We made our way to the bathroom and Matthew took his clothes off while walking. When we got inside, he unbuttoned my jeans while I placed my shower supplies in the rack. As I suspected, Matthew only had a bottle of all-in-one shower gel.
Soon we were standing under the warm running water, Matthew lifting me and pressing me against the wall with a firm grip on my thighs. The water made it easy for him to push into me and soon my cries bounced off the shower walls. “More!” Matthew said “Let me hear more of your sweet voice”
I wrapped my hands in his hair and he thrusted harder against me. My cries got louder, and Matthew grabbed my thighs tighter.
“I can’t hold it much longer” Matthew said, almost surprised.
“Then don’t” I pleaded. Matthew gasped and released inside of me. When he was done, he put me down gently. Then he turned me around and pressed me against the wall while he thrusted his fingers inside me. The gushing sounds it made were both erotic and embarrassing, but it didn’t stop me from crying out when I reached climax. Matthew had to catch me, to prevent me from slipping in the shower as my legs gave in from the intensity of my orgasm.
After we got out of the shower we climbed into bed and I snuggled into Matthew. In one night, he had turned my life upside down. I didn’t feel like I could live without him anymore.
I felt a tear roll down my cheek and it fell on Matthews arm.
“What’s wrong?” Matthew asked, tilting my head to face him. Worry was written all over his face and I cried even more. He hadn’t done anything wrong, but he didn’t know what this meant to me.
“Talk to me” he begged “I want to help!”
He didn’t know how much he had already helped me. The wounds that had been inside of me since I was a little girl, were now closing, all because of him.
I told Matthew everything I had told Roxy about my past. His expression had changed several times, from sadness to shock to horror to fury. When I was finished, he wrapped me in a fierce hug.
“They could have killed you!” he snarled, and I had no doubt that if he knew who my caretakers had been, he would find them right now and make them pay.
“No, they couldn’t” I whispered, “I tried to do just that myself – many times”
Matthew froze and looked down at me.
“How?” He finally managed to ask
I told him about the times I had tried to take my own life. I had used knifes, razorblades, ropes. I had even tried to jump out of a third story window and run out in front of a moving car.
Matthew looked like it was hurting him physically to hear this.
“How?” He said again, and the pain in his eyes was heartbreaking.
“I think my healing ability is more advanced than that of a normal werewolf” I explained. I didn’t know for sure. I had never been tested and my caretakers had just told my alpha that my powers were heightened senses, but I knew that wasn’t true.
Matthew gathered me in his arms again and said “I hope I will never have to see that for myself”
I couldn’t tell how he felt, but I was grateful for my powers right now. They had made sure I met Matthew, and he was worth the wait.
I fell asleep wrapped in Matthews arms and for once I couldn’t wait for the morning to come, so I could see his face as the first thing when I opened my eyes.
