Admiration

"I wanted you, but you married my friend. Now give me your daughter." This was the voice of a man in the sitting room that Victoria heard as she was about to turn the door lock to get inside. She's just returning from the street, where she has gone down to buy body lotion from one of the nearby shops. "That's not possible, Dr. Harry. You know we..." "Mrs. Tony, aren't you glad that I still want to link up with your family? Please don't let me travel down memory lane. Vicky stood by the door as she eavesdropped on their conversation. "Yes, it's the voice of Dr. Harry, as well known, the one treating me at Abole Hospital." "Eem…eem… My daughter is only 23, and you know you are in your late 40s. She is too young for you to marry, young enough to be your daughter." " Hahaha…hahaha… Mrs. Tony, the age difference can never be an issue. Vicky is ripe. I saw her when she visited the hospital. Even amidst the fatigue of her illness, I could still see Her amazonian figure sat well on her wafer-thin body. She had a decanter-shaped waist, and her complexion had an impeccable, ochrous hue. Her pencil-thin eyebrows eased down gently to her black beetle’s-leg eyelashes. A sculptor could not have fashioned her seraph’s ears and pixie’s nose any better. When she broke into a smile, her beguiling, oyster-white teeth lit up the room. It could jolt you like an electric current when that megawatt smile gave you her full attention. Filed to perfection, her Venus-red fingernails ran through her nougat-brown hair. Spools of it plunged around her photogenic face and hid a swan’s neck, elegant and smooth. I loved her nebulous, Eden-green eyes, which were a- spark with the ‘joie de vivre’. They were like two beryl-green jewels melted onto snow. Her calamine-pink lips were so inviting. Her dulcet voice is as sweet as any songbird. Her voguish clothes still kept captive an aroma redolent of cinnamon and meadow-fresh mint. It lingered in the room long after she had left the examination room. I love her." A curious warmth bloomed in Vicky's chest as she overheard snippets of her mother's conversation with Dr. Harry. Though she was not in the room, the doctor's sincerity resonated through the room, painting a vivid picture of his character in her mind. The quality that impressed Vicky most wasn't the way he described her beauty, but rather the depth with which he saw her. The way he phrased his request, seeking her mother's consent before approaching her, spoke volumes about his respect and sensitivity. It wasn't a demand or an assumption, but a genuine expression of his feelings, coupled with an understanding of the situation's delicacy. Observing him throughout her stay in the examination room, she noticed this thoughtfulness in his interactions with all his patients. His kindness wasn't a performance, but a genuine concern that extended beyond his medical expertise. He possessed an intuitive understanding of emotional nuances, a quality that often brought a sense of comfort and ease to his patients. As she pieced together the conversation with her own observations, a sense of admiration blossomed. Dr. Harry wasn't just a skilled physician; he was a kind, thoughtful, and respectful man who valued the individual stories behind each patient. These qualities were what truly impressed her and made her heart skip a beat. "My daughter's focus now is to further her education at the university. She's my only child, and I want her to get to the top. And that's her desire too." "Great ambition. You know I'm a very learned person, one of the most dangerously educated men in this land. I will really love for my wife to be well educated too. So relax; your daughter is going to reach any height she desires," Dr. Harry said. "Okay, I will talk to her. But that's only when she's completely well again," mommy Vicky said. She didn't want to drag the discussion on for fear that he might remind him of the several abortions she had while they were dating; this could have led to her having only one child when she married Tony. " Great! Great!! I will ensure I give her the full medical attention necessary so she can recover as soon as possible. She has had an untreated enteric fever, which is also called typhoid fever. In 2–3 weeks, she's going to be fine. Dring…Dring… Dr Harry brought out his phone from his coat pocket. "Oh, it's Nurse Joe; let me answer the call." He pressed the call button and placed the phone in his right ear. "Hello sir." "Hi, Nurse Joe." "Sir, there's an emergency. A woman was just rushed in." " Okay, I will be on my way right away. "Mrs. Tony, I will take my leave now. I'm on call," said Dr. Harry. "Okay, all the best," said Mrs. Tony. Vicky quickly ran to the backyard, hid, and peered as he walked towards his car, bathed in the warmed glow of the settling sun. While the physical features weren't the sole reason for her blossoming feelings, they did add a certain charm to his character. His tall stature and broad shoulders conveyed a sense of strength and reliability. His dark hair, flecked with the first hints of silver, was neatly combed, hinting at a bit of discipline. As he turned, the sunlight caught the corner of his kind eyes, crinkling slightly at the edges. He wasn't conventionally ruggedly handsome, but his features held quite a bit of handsomeness, a handsomeness that stemmed from the kindness and sincerity she'd witness within him. Without noticing Vicky's presence anywhere nearby, he opened the car door, turned on the ignition, matched the clutch pedal, adjusted the gear lever to drive D, matched the accelerator pedal, and zoomed off. Will this man have a masked character that Vicky has not seen? Only time will tell.
