Chapter 8:
Sophia knows that she needs to talk to her father, to explain why she chose Ryder over him. She takes a deep breath and goes to his office, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Father, we need to talk," Sophia says, her voice firm but respectful.
James looks up from his desk, his eyes narrowed. "What is it, Sophia? You've made your choice clear. You've chosen that bodyguard over your own family."
Sophia takes a deep breath and tries to explain. "It's not like that, Father. I love Ryder, and he loves me. We're happy together, and that's all that should matter."
James scoffs. "Happy? You call that happy? He's a bodyguard, Sophia! He's not worthy of you!"
Sophia feels a surge of anger at her father's words, but she tries to stay calm. "That's not fair, Father. Ryder is a good man, and he deserves a chance. You're not giving him a chance because of your own prejudices."
James's face softens slightly, and for a moment, Sophia sees a glimmer of understanding in his eyes. "I just want what's best for you, Sophia," he says. "I want you to be happy."
Sophia takes a step forward, her heart filled with emotion. "I am happy, Father. I'm happy with Ryder. Please, just try to understand."
James sighs, his shoulders sagging in defeat. "I'll try, Sophia. I'll try to understand."
Sophia feels a sense of hope at her father's words. Maybe, just maybe, they can work through this after all.
