Chapter 11 Paula Fisher had a lousy night and was glad to be leaving work and going home. The unit was short-staffed again, and she had a heavy three-patient assignment. Two of her patients were on ventilators, and the assignment was bordering on unsafe; this had become the status quo. When she approached her car, she found both back tires flat. “s**t,” she muttered.
