One of the first things Artemis had noticed about Mercury was that there were lightbulbs everywhere, still plugged into their sockets from Before, never to be used again.
Artemis waited patiently, nose in book, for everyone to leave the trailer. Selah and Niko went out to help Kat unload the trucks early on, but Cole hung around the trailer for a while. As soon as he announced he was going to play, Artemis set down the book and got to work.
At first, Artemis only took lightbulbs from places where they wouldn’t be missed, in drawers and in light fixtures that had to be unscrewed from the ceiling. She had to find a more permanent way to store them, but for the time being, she hid them in the folds of her sleeping bag, careful to disguise the bumps they made as folds in the thick cotton.
