DAMIEN One thing I’ve learned about life—it humbles you before it feeds you. I and Zinna didn’t grow up rich. Hell, we barely had enough to call “middle class.” We learned early how to make things work, how to stretch what little we had until it looked like plenty. I guess that’s where I learned to cook. I worked under a chef once, scrubbing pans and chopping onions till my fingers went numb. It wasn’t glamorous, but I picked up a few skills, skills that turned out to be pretty useful this morning. Because right now, I wanted to do something nice for Macey before she woke up. Last night had been… intense. Wild, even. We crossed lines, pushed limits I didn’t think she’d be open to. But Macey?
